Body of Kernelle Benjamin found 6 days after her disappearance

Kernelle Benjamin

Six days after the disappearance of 18 year old Kernelle Benjamin, family members have confirmed that the young adult has been found dead.

During a search and rescue carried out today in the town of Portsmouth where the mother of a 1 year-old child resides, Benjamin’s remains were discovered in the back of a home near the Portsmouth Hospital.

During a previous interview, Benjamin’s mother, Melissa George, informed Dominica News Online (DNO) that her daughter was last seen in the Chance area on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, and to date no family members or acquaintances have seen her, nor have they been able to contact her because Benjamin does not own a cell phone.

Police officers have confirmed to DNO that the body has been transported to the North Eastern Funeral Association (NEFA) pending an autopsy.

DNO will keep you updated on further developments in this story.

If her body was found in the back of a home near the Portsmouth hospital, then I suppose the owners or residents of this home will be by now being investigated and helping the police with their investigation. People should allow the police to do their job and stop weaponising this young woman’s deaf for political purposes. My condolences to the relatives and child left to mourn the unfortunate death of this young woman. May her soul rest in peace and who ever responsible for her death be speedily brought to justice.

SKERROO…….You’re such a fool. You say 10 people working for welfare and the Prime Minister is getting rich. Why don’t you go and apply for a job and make it 11 people working for Welfare. You crazy people want the Prime Minister to discipline your children, raise your children, shelter your children, educate your children, feed your children, baby sit your children…while you go out there and make more children. When will that blame game “SugarHoneyIceTea”, stop? Mothers be mothers, fathers be fathers. It takes a village, not the Tablet, not the SmartPhone, not InstaGram, not Facebook, not TikTok, what the Hell is wrong with You People, yes YOU PEOPLE!

I think what the Prime Minister needs to do is to take care of every Dominican, be less greedy, be an honest man (he isnt), stop dealing with people of questionable character, stop giving all big jobs to foreigners, expose people like you, who certainly can’t give him any good advice, properly account for the country’s money, give Dominicans Electoral Reform…

What the hell are you talking about? Your comment is senseless. What does Roosevelt have to do with a person, or persons, committing murder? How would having a job prevent murders from occurring?

It is concerning that we have pedophiles at large roaming in society; however, we don’t know who are until it’s too late.

Well-said! DNO, I need an applause emoji.

Too many Dominicans have been made to believe that someone other than themselves is always responsible for their aches and their joys, and that someone is, inevitably, Roosevelt Skerrit. This is the legacy of the UWPwee, mind-bending.

Stop blaming the Prime Minister. Parents have to start being parents. Know where your child is going, who they are with, how are they getting there and, what time they are planning on coming back home? Social media have people going MAD! They all want: Like’s, Emoji’s, Avatar’s, Friends, Frenemies, Followers, Boyfriends, Girlfriends, People Husband Friend, People Wife Friend, and all the other things people look for on Social Media. What a waste of time. Young people are easily influenced, some adults are easily influenced, people have Smart Phones, yet they do dumb things. Call me crazy if you want, Stop being your child or children’s friend –Be a concern parent. They will hate you Now, and love you Later.. Keep the Faith

You deliberately forgot the poor state of the economy that have many people’s children begging, and evil leaders are violating them in slaughter houses for money to buy recess, to buy bread, books, glasses, clothes, cell phones, for scholarships, etc, etc, etc,….
Why did you forget those things????

For such a relatively tiny country, the number of unsolved homicides and missing persons is unacceptable.

The public’s involvement in working hand in glove with law enforcement is crucial. But how could Dominicans be willing to work with a loose military gang comprising of handpicked dummies, trigger-happy bandits and sheep-like bodyguards.

I listened to the minister of national security ranting about citizens preparing to exercise their constitutional right to demonstrate. It’s clear to me that this guy doesn’t know how to properly do his job. Blackmore remains M.I.A when there are serious matters occurring in the country and the citizenry who pay his darn salary need to hear some words of comfort and reassurance. I guess it suggests that Skerritt is the only one who has to come forward and address the public to allay their fears. It’s clear this young girl’s family are not money folks, that’s why the minister wasn’t motivated to give priority to their concern. Dominica has a high incidence of people missing and many are just given up as extraterrestrial beings, gone to the great beyond. For crying out loud, they have loved ones who grieve and need help. Blackmore you have been in office long enough, maybe too long. Come on man and be more visible for the citizens in their time of great need.

A person is reported missing after 72 hours, in some cases. This girl, per her mother, was not in communication for four days (mind you, not usual to inquire about her baby) before she, the mother sought help in finding her, the daughter. There’s enough blame to go around already, but don’t you (and others) think the wrong people are getting blamed.

My opinion, although it takes money and a Village to intervene, search, etc., most importantly, it takes concern and compassion. The way I see it, if this was a different family everyone would’ve jumped on the search wagon.

It shouldn’t take 72 hours much less four/five days to report a missing person. The officer(s) that the mother said she spoke with and ignored her concern is just as bad as any other. The girl probably was dead the same day she went to that house to get her clothing. Per mother, when she called the man and he told her that the bike is there, the clothing are there, but the girl isn’t, that was a RED…

    Tony:

Hello and good afternoon my people. First, I want to offer my condolences to the family of this young lady and may she rest in peace. The article is vague but we can suspect that she’s a Homicide victim. The Police isn’t saying if her body showed signs of injuries like gun shots or if she was raped and strangled. Why isn’t the body being transported to the Government Hospital in Roseau where an Autopsy would be performed. The Police isn’t maintaining chain of custody of evidence which is the body. Does our Government have a medical examiner/pathologist who works for the government to perform the autopsy. Now we have a young man shot to death in Grand Bay and this young lady discovered dead, what’s going on in our country. We nerver had access to those criminal American tv shows which is part of what’s destroying our country.

To begin with, condolences to the family of the deceased. Her child is too young to understand ‘mommy isn’t coming home’. It’s another sad day for the Island, on a whole.
No one knows what’s going on in people’s minds. No one could’ve predicted this teenager would be a murder victim. She might have put herself in the line of fire but no one could be that angry, or jealous, to commit murder. There are solutions to every problem.
There’s enough blame to go around, but based on what I’m reading, blame is directed at all the wrong people. The only blame in this situation is ALL on the MURDERER. Hopefully justice for the VICTIM will be served.

My heart bleeds for all the victims in any of these circumstances.
    R.I.P. Kernelle

Before you guys draw conclusions on how and why this young lady died, perhaps it is better to wait for the autopsy results. At this time, no one knows how she died.

…and you believe what they tell you? Surely not! I don’t trust them as far as I can through them. Face it, Dominica is a place that’s rotten to the core. I’m ashamed of my country to an extend that I haven’t been home for 17 years now.

This is going to be yet another mystery, the same way Kernisha will remain a mystery. The reason these cases remain a mystery because top dogs are involved. Bottom line, no real mystery but rather massive cover ups!

Something is wrong, and no stone should remain unturned, it’s like people’s life is of no value, and people disappear without a trace. I don’t know who should be held responsible but someone should be accountable, our country and population are too small for these lives to be lost without anyone being held responsible. I have one question if it was a close family member of anyone in the high office, what would be the results? It’s like people are getting paid for doing nothing, we should show our dissatisfaction before it knocks at our doors, and it should not be a DLP and UWP or DFP matter but a national issue.

This is extremely sad. I could only imagine the inconsolable grief and emotional pain of the family circle. It seems like suffering has become the lot of Dominicans.

Something has to give. The nation cannot sustain this high level of distress and misery for too much longer. The people need urgent relief from this life of dispossession, political tribalism, disappearance, false promises and hopelessness.

May the people wrestle power from those who currently oppress them, and come together to chart a life of peace, harmony and prosperity for themselves.

Stop being a jacka… Parents need to show more love towards the well being and welfare of their kids. You turn your back onto your kids, then whose gonna show love to them? You take no interest in your kids whereabouts, then whose gonna show interest in their whereabouts? You have Ibo who once said that Government should not interfere in people’s home affairs and personal business but now he says it is Government’s business to know the whereabouts of all kids. Ibo, what have you been eating all this time? My daughter’s nurturing and education is my responsibility. Not Skerrit’s or Joe Biden’s. Every time a child is missing, it is Skerrit’s fault. How could you be such an a.. hole?

Blackmore as Minister of National Security, seem to be more interested in an Electoral Reform meeting, than the many disapperances and deaths that have pervaded the country. Will we hear the stuttering misleader voice on this one?
