Reports reaching DNO indicate that one man was arrested during the protest action by members of the Tipper Truckers Association which started at Canefield this morning.
Truckers parked several trucks on one lane of the E.O. Leblanc Highway in the vicinity of the Canefield Industrial Park to demonstrate their concern over what they say is a lack of employment for them, with spokespersons alleging that jobs are being handed out to foreigners. However, the protesters left one lane open to facilitate the flow of traffic.
According to reports, during the protest, one of the truckers tried to park his truck across the road in an apparent attempt to block both lanes and was allegedly manhandled and arrested by the police.
Below is a video taken at the scene around the time that the arrest was made.
The truckers initial approach of leaving one lane open to road users was the correct approach but once an overly excited trucker decided to block the road, the line was crossed and a new dimension was added to the saga. This led to the encounter with the police. I was not present on the scene so I’m unable to give a first hand account of what transpired but good sense tells me that you’re less likely to get in trouble if you do what’s right by following the law.You cannot block the road, more so when there’s no alternate route and expect this to be okay.
I believe the best approach by the police should have been to ask the gentleman to move his truck and only arrest him and have his vehicle towed if he refused to comply. It is important for the police to demonstrate to the citizenry that unacceptable behavior is not an option and will not be tolerated.
STOP talking on both sides of your mouth. They have blocked the road from the get go. Thats the mistake they made. Now they have beaten the young man, every commercial vehicle on island should join in and block the road wherever they are, no need to come down. Time for action to force change in this land of my ancestors. United we stand, divided we fall.

I am just baffled at the news feed and videos. In the 21st century and the year 2024 where countries like Saudi Arabia have finally allowed women to drive, become leaders and practice in roles that were historically held by men, I see Dominica and Dominicans being dehumanized and mentally, emotionally and socially molested by a group of uneducated, biased, ‘yes” individuals who hold positions, not leadership roles but positions. I am confused as to whether the officers understand the lament and pain of the people that they are targeting with tear gas and threatening with arrests. It is sad, it is something that should be unforgiving that citizens of a country would have to be led by an inept group, who are not leaders, and are powerless without the position they hold.
But, hey, 20 more years!
The CDPF is mostly a loose alliance of illiterate, semi-illiterate of school dropouts. Many court cases have to be discontinued by the DPP and prosecutors because of the shabby collection of evidence, and the indecipherable written reports of the police officers.
They (the police) come from the bottom of society. Ruffians, thugs, bumpkins rascals, scoundrels, hooligans and reprobates populate the present police force. They behave exactly like the low caliber miscreants they are.
Take the police name and badge number
looks like the truckers are fed up of being treated like fools .Unless there is good reason they should all have work. groundbreaking ceremony every day and you not giving the truckers work. well you was wrong and now look they block the road. frustration on the truckers behalf .because they want a slice of the cake and who that do nothing get a big slice already and the truckers doh get nothing.
The police is really WEAK,they should arrest every truck driver who is involved in blocking the public road,every one of them.That is how it is done in every country,arrest the law breakers.There must be space in the cell for a handful of truckers.That is how it is done in the USA,you break the law,you are arrested and put in the cell.We have a bunch of dunce police,just getting a salary for being ignorant of the law and lazy.The truckers does not have the support,and will never have the of the PEOPLE for blocking the road

@Lin Clown
@Lin Clown
YOUR BIG MOTH COWARD.
You must say the same when your false God violates the law as well.
That’s why you are called a CLOWN. Learn how to punctuate.
@Lin Clown
If your teeth is big enough, go grade the trucks. Your CLOWN!
how can the majority of all projects funded by cbi be given to foreigners where as we Dominicans get only crumbs
this cannot be correct
its our passport
our money
therefore we must benefit from the majority of funds spent on cbi projects
why should we bring outside people to drive trucks or work when we have people available to do so i would understand if we do not have available extra heavy duty trucks, but we do have the drivers to drive them and they can be hired to drive rather than having outside people brought in to do so .
i would understand if it was a grant then the country who issued the funds can have most of the say but again the majority of work must be done by us not outsiders
One thing for a fact,this protest cannot prevent Labour from winning the next election.One thing I am happy about is that the blue bugs from Marigot and Salisbury cannot go to Roseau to work or do business.This protest should happen when two or three tourist boats are in Dominica or during creole festival let’s see who lose.Truckers supporting UWP should NOT be given jobs on any project,and any supporter of UWP who miss work because of the protest should be fired.I hope the police take the names of the Owners of all trucks involved in the protest,charge them with obstruction and ask the magistrate to revoke their license.
@Lin Clown
You missed out on one thing. Illiterate clowns hate protests.
labour power
this is not about who supporting whom , its about the prosperity of the country and all of Dominicans to live comfortably and afford other things besides the basis everyday needs
also a government is voted in to look after the people of the country and not a selected few so lets move away from, who vote for who should get jobs ,if we all succeed in life the better for us and da
How many of you guys actually voted for this . I bet the majority voted to be treated in this way
It’s not the first time. Ballsless men!
This Tipper Truckers Association is useless. Skerrit will offer each truck to carry one load of tarish, and that’s it.
DNO the truckers are engaging in peaceful protest supported by the constitution. Live reports have confirmed the the police are using brutal force to break the blockage of the road.
The police are acting like the police dogs used on peaceful protesters in the US during the height of the civil rights era. A real, well trained police force would always try to de-escalate the tensions instead of resorting to this heavy handed, big stock approach.
Dominicans, how long would you stand idly by as onlookers when your own brothers and family members are being savagely beaten, wrongfully arrested in favour of foreigners.
I’m reiterating for the umpteen time, this Roosevelt-led nakedly corrupt regime idolizes foreigners and abhors born Dominicans. Supporting evidence: a foreigner of Arab lineage have been given full access to the CBI billions, the Chinese get all the big ticket public contracts, foreign fugitives of the law are made diplomats and ambassadors. Unacceptable!
I hope they run that all week. One day of this is not enough. Make them feel you. We need more people and associations to start demanding.
What really gets me is usually, Jesus Skerrit does just call them into his office, butter their mouth, appease them like and we never hear about the issue again. Remember the bus driver protest? Same thing. These are the same people we vote in. The same people who have us in these predicaments. And we just act like fools and continue to vote them in. We acting like people that have a closet full of clothes (options) but think they can only wear one thing, day in day out, and still complain about not really liking what we wearing when you can simply change your clothes. And if you dont like the new outfit you can try something else again or even go back to what you had. But make a change papa bondieux instead of complaining and not making a move for yourselves. Skerrit and his friends are laughing at us. They care not of our opinions. so keep it…
When your government make you second class citizens in your own country! Let us all be honest, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit cares more about his CBI citizens who brings him money and his Dominica diaspora voters who keep him in office, than you Dominicans that in his own words, are always complaining, jealous of what other people have, and just want more and more!
When you use your finger and vote for a man to be your Prime Minister and then he turns around and treats you like a slave on his plantation, you have to laugh at yourself and your level of stupidity and dottishness! lol 😂
