British Prime Minister Liz Truss has announced she will stand down as leader of the Conservative party and prime minister, just six weeks after she was appointed.
Her resignation came after her policies created economic turmoil in the United Kingdom and which plunged her government into chaos.
“I recognise though, given the situation, I cannot deliver the mandate on which I was elected by the Conservative Party. I have therefore spoken to His Majesty the King to notify him that I am resigning as leader of the Conservative Party,” she said at a press conference on Thursday morning.
Truss was formally appointed by Queen Elizabeth II on September 6, and has become the shortest-serving prime minister in British history.
A leadership contest to decide the next leader of the ruling Conservative Party is now underway and will conclude next week.
Whoever is chosen, becomes prime minister by default.
The opposition Labour party quickly jumped on the development and has called for an immediate general election.
“The Tories (Conservatives) cannot respond to their latest shambles by yet again simply clicking their fingers and shuffling the people at the top without the consent of the British people. We need a general election — now,” the opposition leader said in a statement.
This is a developing story.
In Liz they did not Truss afterall. The whole exercise of trying to make the Treasury Secretary the fall guy was a classic text book case of political distraction and a smooth set up for Boris Johnson’s re-emergence.

How can you compare 6 weeks with 20+ years? If Dominicans were not prospering, why would they continue to elect the Prime Minister and his governing body. The last election victory was 18-3. That is 18 constituency against 3–come on now, you people!

There isn’t any prime minister or deputy prime minister not minister of which ministry. At the end of the process the declared winning party allocates who it wants in what positions. Therefore the voters didn’t elect any prime minister at the polls for the past 4 elections. The Caricom observer mission report stated that the elections were free “but NOT fair” and the CCJ has shine a light on the shenanigans and say it must not continue to happen. If the electorate was satisfied then why did the cabal resort to dirty tricks and bold face theft to win elections? You are either a part of the solution or a part of the problem. Did you not notice that I stressed on the fact that the last general election return with an 18-3 result. This means that the large majority of Dominica voted for the Labor Party, headed by Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, who was also elected in his constitution for the 4th time. Where did I tell you that the people elected a Prime Minister?
My point to Braindamage is, what is the reason that PM Skerrit should resign, when the people are loudly electing the Party that he leads, including himself. Your comment against mine makes no sense, whatsoever.

I have never been in Dominica from the time that I have been eligible to vote, at any election time.
I don’t even vote in Canada, where I have lived for the past 48 years. And yet Canada has made me her own, to be entitled to any of their services. I worked for 30+ years to earn my pension income.
For that reason, I am able to contribute to the economy of Dominica, by helping my people there financially, much more than you will ever be able to do so–wherever you are.
I suggest that you learn to allow your mind to develop some kind of sensibility, instead of claiming to have a “DAMAGED BRAIN” That is why everything that write is nothing but foolishness.

Hats off to her for coming to the realization that she was in over her head and had bit off more than she could swallow and the honorable thing to do was to resign, unlike some of those square pegs in round holes who carry “Minister” titles here in Dominica.
