Brooklyn-born, Dominican-raised artist TriSzy’s new Bouyon single is a ‘Mood’

Tristan “TriSzy” Shillingford

Emerging Bouyon artist Tristan “TriSzy” Shillingford has garnered attention with his latest single, “Mood,” a track that has quickly gained popularity online. According to reports from his team, since its release in April 2025, the song has accumulated over 6,000 views on YouTube. Fans from Dominica and other regions have engaged with the track by sharing dance videos and expressing positive feedback in the comments.

TriSzy commented on the reception: “It’s been crazy how much love the song is getting. So many people are making videos and sharing how it gets them in the mood to have fun. I love and appreciate all of it.”

The single was produced by Fr3EzE, a Dominican music producer recognized for collaborations with prominent Bouyon acts such as Shelly and Signal Band (“Bye to the Old Me”) and Trilla G (“Take Me As I Am”). The track was mixed and mastered by Tha WizZarD, another respected figure in the genre’s production scene.

His bio says that TriSzy was born in Brooklyn, and raised in Dominica, and attended Convent Preparatory School and the Dominica Grammar School before returning to the United States. He began his music career as a rapper with the collective The Mixed Breed (TMB). Over time, he explored various genres including Hip Hop, R&B, Dancehall, and Soca, eventually developing his own style called Island Pop—a fusion of these diverse influences, revealed the press release.

Throughout his musical journey, TriSzy has reportedly maintained a strong connection to his Dominican roots. He has collaborated with local and regional artists such as Colton T (“Inside Me”) and Shelly (“Bum Pain”). In 2021, he returned to Dominica to film the video for his single “If Is One Thing,” which was a response to a comment from a Bouyon promoter claiming that “the only thing that can make it out of Dominica is Bouyon.”

“At the time, I felt I had to prove that other genres like Hip Hop could represent Dominica too,” TriSzy explained. “So, I tackled it in song.”

By 2025, TriSzy had expanded his musical scope to include Bouyon—not to make a statement, but to challenge himself creatively. He shared, “With this single, I really just wanted to see if I could sing on a Bouyon track. I never expected the kind of love I’m getting now.”

Expressing enthusiasm for the genre’s growing international presence, particularly at parties and festivals, the artist said that he believes that Bouyon’s rising popularity does not diminish Soca’s relevance; instead, it indicates that audiences are embracing multiple genres.

“It’s Bouyon time now,” he declared.

Bouyon, which originated in Dominica in the late 1980s with bands like WCK and First Serenade, combines elements of Zouk, Cadence-lypso, and traditional Jing Ping music. Over the years, it has evolved into various subgenres, including Bouyon Soca, Bouyon Dancehall, and the more energetic Nasty Business style. Its influence extends beyond Dominica, notably impacting the music scene in St. Lucia’s Dennery Segment.

TriSzy’s experience as a U.S.-based artist influenced by Bouyon exemplifies the genre’s expanding reach, says his team.

Listeners are encouraged to get in the “Mood” by streaming the song across all major musical platforms.
