Caribbean Democrat Union releases congratulatory statement to Allen Chastanet on IDU appointment

Hon. Allen Chastanet

The Caribbean Democrat Union (CDU) has issued a formal statement congratulating former St Lucia prime minister, the Hon. Allen Chastanet on his recent appointment as Vice Chairman of the Board of the International Democracy Union (IDU). According to a press release from the CDU, this milestone is regarded as a significant achievement not only for Chastanet but also for the Caribbean region as a whole.

The appointment marks a historic moment for the Caribbean, as Chastanet becomes one of the few regional leaders to hold such a high-level position within the global alliance of center-right political parties. The CDU highlighted that his selection is a testament to his unwavering dedication to democratic values, principles of good governance, and the rule of law—principles that he has championed both in Saint Lucia and internationally.

It further stated that throughout his distinguished career, Allen Chastanet has been recognized for his consistent advocacy of transparency, accountability, and people-centered development. As a statesman and visionary leader, he has effectively combined passion with pragmatism in defending democratic institutions and the rights of citizens.

Within the IDU, said the CDU , Chastanet has long been regarded as a respected advocate for elevating Caribbean perspectives in vital global discussions on climate change, trade and investment, tourism, and sustainable development. His leadership has played a key role in ensuring that small island developing states are not only visible but also heard in international policy dialogues, shared the statement.

The CDU relayed pride in celebrating this achievement alongside Chastanet and the United Workers Party (UWP) family. The organization expressed confidence that his role on the IDU Board will help amplify Caribbean concerns and aspirations, thereby enhancing the region’s contribution to the global democratic movement.

In concluding their statement, the CDU extended best wishes for Chastanet’s continued success in his new role, emphasizing that his work will benefit the region and all those who uphold the ideals of freedom, justice, and prosperity through democracy.

This version of democracy, really a remnant of feudalism, has become a tool weaponized by Western countries. You go to polls but only the ones with most money win. It’s main purpose is to keep the ill-gotten resources of the African continent, and keep us where we are poor and broke. To the extent that today, only a series of coups can help Africa where it really matters, to get out of the grip of France, England, Germany etc.

Chastenet has no clue, clueless to what’s happening today even in St. Lucia. We are throwing support behind IB – Ibrahim Traore on the trajectory to get back what belongs to us so we can develope ourselves.
