CARICOM Heads of Government to focus on security, food systems, climate change, geopolitics

The upcoming Forty-Ninth Meeting of the CARICOM Heads of Government will prioritize strengthening regional security, boosting food and nutrition security, and addressing climate change, according to CARICOM Secretary-General Dr. Carla Barnett.

CARICOM released a statement sharing that the gathering is scheduled from July 6 to July 8 in Montego Bay, Jamaica, with Dr. the Most Hon. Andrew Holness serving as Chair. Prime Minister Holness will assume the six-month rotating Chairmanship of the Community beginning July 1, 2025.

The discussions will be centered around the theme: ‘People, Partnerships, Prosperity: Promoting a Secure and Sustainable Future,’ which Secretary-General Barnett explained aligns with CARICOM’s strategic aim of working collectively to ensure that “future generations of our Region will be resilient, and safe, and will thrive.”

In a video message released ahead of the meeting, the Secretary-General highlighted that the Heads of Government will also address emerging geopolitical concerns, including the effects of US tariffs on the region, as well as how the provisions of the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME) can support national and regional growth and sustainable development.

“Our expectation is that this Meeting of the Conference will engender those discussions and decisions that will lead to meaningful outcomes for the Caribbean Community,” she stated in her message.

CARICOM is an organization that needs to be disbanded. An organization that has no cohesion in its dealings. These states are not doing anything. They are simply waiting on the international community and take up causes that other nations are using to “fix” their countries.

Among the countries they are competing against each other, trying to remain o top while others stay down. Geopolitics they have nothing to say about. Human Rights they have nothing to say.

Each one for himself approach is what is going on and some sont get it while others get it.

Some have colonial perks still while others done. Those who dont have colonial perks are trying to maintain status while ensuring there stay down.

CARICOm is nothing just a group with some people getting HUGE PAY checks and boasting their name in the region.

Too bad. THE DO NOTHING ORGANIZATION.

    Good food
    Per diem
    Expensive wine
    Gluttoness
    Five Star hotel comfort
    Bla bla bla
The paucity of real leaders in the Caribbean is evident even to a child. What a shame!

CARICOM is the world’s greatest talk-shop. Well done is much more preferable than well said.

Well-loved. Like or Dislike: Thumb up 5 Thumb down 1
