A significant joint operation targeting drug trafficking in the waters off the Virgin Islands (VI) last week led to the confiscation of over 772 kilograms of cocaine and the detention of six suspects. This coordinated effort involved expertise from the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Implementation Agency for Crime and Security (IMPACS), said a press release from the organization.
The operation, carried out over a two-day period from December 8 to December 9, 2025, involved multiple agencies working together, including the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF), His Majesty’s Customs, and international partners from the United States Customs and Border Protection (USCBP).
The success of the mission was reportedly triggered by intelligence indicating unusual maritime activity within VI territory.
By facilitating the rapid exchange of critical intelligence, CARICOM IMPACS enabled authorities to target the specific vessel involved. This coordination resulted in intercepting the vessel, seizing the narcotics, and arresting the suspects involved in the illicit activity.
“This operation is a profound testament to the power of regional and international cooperation in securing our shared maritime space. The continuous flow of real-time intelligence and the seamless coordination among all partners including the RVIPF and His Majesty’s Customs to our US and regional counterparts, demonstrate an unwavering commitment to dismantling the criminal networks that threaten the security and well-being of the Caribbean,” said Lt. Col. Michael Jones, the Executive Director of CARICOM IMPACS, highlighting the importance of this collaborative effort.
As per the release, following the operation, six individuals were taken into custody and now face charges related to drug importation and possession with intent to supply. They are currently detained and scheduled to appear before a Magistrate’s Court.
Richard Ullger, the Acting Interim Commissioner of Police, is reported by CARICOM IMPACS as praising the professionalism and rapid response of the involved agencies, emphasizing the risks involved in such operations. He noted that this seizure significantly disrupts transnational criminal enterprises operating in the region.
“This seizure is a clear demonstration of what can be achieved when law enforcement agencies work together with precision, intelligence and determination. The removal of more than 772 kilograms of cocaine from circulation represents a major blow to organised crime. I commend every officer and partner agency involved for their professionalism and unwavering commitment to protecting the Virgin Islands”, stated Ullger.
