CARICOM SG calls for joint regional approach to combat climate change and other challenges

The Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community, Dominican Irwin LaRocque, told CARICOM heads that they must work together to combat threats of climate change and other challenges.

LaRocque was delivering opening remarks at the start of the 31ST Intersessional Meeting of the Conference of the Heads of Government of CARICOM in Barbados.

“Whether it is the imperative of making progress with the Single Market and Economy…protecting the health and security of our people, it is with one goal in mind…we have to build a resilient CSME,” said.

LaRocque who was appointed in 2011 said building a resilient CSME, necessitates an all-inclusive approach that embraces the skills, talents and resources of the public and private sectors, labour, civil society, youth and indeed, the entire society.

He said it also requires cooperation and assistance from friends in the international community.

“These combined and coordinated efforts will serve us in good stead as we strive to build that resilience to combat the challenges that we face, most particularly the threat of climate change…” he said.

Another indication of a more inclusive deliberation, according to LaRocque, is the fact that CARICOM engages regularly with the private and public sectors.

Meantime, the CARICOM secretary-general said the issue of Chronic Non-Communicable Diseases is another factor that threatens the health of people in the region.

He also touched on the deadly Coronavirus and reiterated that there have been no cases in the Caribbean.

However, LaRocque said there is strong collaboration among member states to address the challenges of the virus.

The conference is chaired by Barbados Prime Minister Mia Motley. It ends on Wednesday.

There are lots of things that CARICOM should do as one. This is a no brainer. Fishing laws and management, pollution and pollution control migration, performing arts, just to name a few. I would like to see Hall of fame museums for Caribbean music and cultural accomplishments. Sports etc. Highlight and elevate major positive impacts.
The only problem is if a major financial donation is made and asked to split up amongst islands then you see fighting.

Another talkshop by these people. Another opportunity for them to travel on taxpayers money, stay in fancy hotels, dress in nice suits and appear infront camera to make people think they are actually pursuing serious issues beyond just merely yadda, yadda talk.

Is that the same body from which certain leaders (whether willingly or through coercion) allowed members of their security forces to be sent to Dominica as part of the RSS which was used to tear-gas the village of Salisbury at 4:30am on December 5, 2019?

And DNO, what about the specially invited guest from the UK who was at that CARICOM ‘meeting’? You all got a report coming soon on what the outgoing (oops….) the current Commonwealth Secretary-General said at the CARICOM heads of government talkshop?

According to Jesus woe to you Irwin Larocque! Hypocrite and enemy of Dominica you are! You need to watch CNN to see how others like you are standing against Trump, in defense of their country. You will one day leave this Earth and all your Evil work and Evil money will testify against you.
Woe to you Mia Mottley! Hypocrite you are! You came into power and met us half destroyed as a country and member of CARICOM and instead of helping us you blindfolded that greedy corrupt Skerrit and too Ross University from us though you knew that’s all we had left. According to Skerrit himself “go to hell” Mia Mostly, ” Go to Hell” you CARICOM leaders; ” Go to hell” Irwin Larocque! Hell has a special place for all of you hypocrites!

I concur 100%! It’s time that we start to call them out by name and title. Here by is a passage from Matthew 23:15, Jesus used to describe these type of hypocrites including that Evilzabeth that always pretends to be a believer but defends everything that old serpent says and does:
“Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You travel over land and sea to win a single convert, and when he becomes one, you make him twice as much a son of hell as you are.” Matt. 23:15

I put Irwin LaRocque,, Vince Henderson, Roosevelt Skerrit, Baroness Scottland, Tony the A….. that fan, the Lawrence attorneys, ALL the present and past ministers of Skerrit (except those that left because of conscience) the dollar minister, Sam Raphael, Gregor Nassief, the so called Evangelist, most pastors, a few priests, the bishop and a few more, will all go down in history as the group that helped Skerrit destroy the good foundation of Dominica that their parents left them with even if we didn’t have money. Soon, all of the above will be gone to the unknown world but sadly, they will not leave a Dominica for their children to be proud of. In fact, I would not be surprised if all of them left a better world abroad for their children, while they created a s… hole country for us and our children

@ concur with you 100%. I just feel Charles Savarin, Daniel Carbon and that boastful pastor should be mentioned by name. Here is the entire scripture Jesus used to describe those type of people in Matthew 23:15 and I hope that Evilzabeth knows she too is included:

“Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You travel over land and sea to win a single convert, and when he becomes one, you make him twice as much a son of hell as you are. They are all followers of the evil one
