Minister of Finance, Economic Development, Climate Resilience and Social Security, Dr. Irving McIntyre has reminded the public to be responsible in their preparation for the 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season.

The 2025 Atlantic Hurricane season began on June 1 and will run through to November 30.

According to the minister, the projections from forecasters show an above-normal hurricane activity in the Atlantic basin this year. Therefore, he says this is not a time for complacency. We must act with agency.

“We must prepare our homes, clear our drains, secure our documents, and importantly we must educate ourselves and our children about the importance of building with resilience in mind,” he urged.

He went on to add that Dominica has been recognized across the region and beyond for its leadership in climate resilience but added that this recognition must be matched by action at every level of development.

“Let us be the generation that refuses to build the same way after every disaster,” Dr. McIntyre encouraged. “Let us be the generation that broke the cycle of vulnerability, let us be the generation that transformed our buildings and also our mindsets, policies, and systems to build a stronger, safer Dominica.”
