Cloudflare outage disrupts major websites and internet services

A significant portion of the internet experienced disruptions early Tuesday morning, impacting popular websites and online platforms. The incident stemmed from a malfunction within Cloudflare, a major provider of internet infrastructure services,  as per an article in The Independent.

The company took several hours to identify and resolve a widespread problem that disrupted access to several high-profile sites, including Twitter/X and ChatGPT/OpenAI, as well as local outlets such as Dominica News Online.

During the outage, the article shared that users attempting to visit sites such as X (formerly known as Twitter), ChatGPT, and Letterboxd, a platform for film reviews, encountered error messages indicating that Cloudflare’s technical difficulties prevented pages from loading properly.

Cloudflare plays a critical role in the modern internet ecosystem by providing essential services that support website availability and security. These include tools designed to defend websites against cyber threats and maintain their online presence during periods of heavy traffic.

Notably, reported Tech Radar, the outage also affected Down Detector, the website that tracks internet service interruptions, which itself encountered issues due to the glitch.

The issues appear to be resolved for now.
