Police officers residing in the Bellevue Chopin area, led by Deputy Chief of Police Jeffrey James, conducted a meaningful foot patrol within the community as part of ongoing community engagement efforts on Friday, January 16, 2026.
According to a statement via the Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force (CDPF), during the patrol, officers paid courtesy visits to respected retired law enforcement officers — Retired Inspector Cyprian Defoe, Retired Sergeant Edwin Francis, and Retired Special Constable Phillipson Darroux.
“These visits were filled with nostalgia, as past experiences and light-hearted jokes were shared. The retirees warmly praised the initiative and expressed appreciation for being remembered and included,” the statement said. “The patrol also extended to the business community, where officers held valuable discussions, explained the objectives of the patrol, and raised awareness about the Bellevue Chopin & Petite Savanne Community Policing Group. Business owners were also provided with practical safety tips to better protect their establishments.”
The statement went on to say, engagement with young men in the area formed another key part of the patrol. They welcomed the initiative and encouraged officers to make the engagement more consistent, highlighting the positive impact of police presence and dialogue.
“This patrol and the formation of the community policing group are in keeping with the Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force Community Oriented Policing Initiative, which focuses on strengthening partnerships, building trust, and fostering safer communities,” the statement said.
The day was described as a historic moment for Bellevue Chopin, with elderly residents noting that they had never witnessed such an initiative in the area before.
To culminate the day’s activities, officers and community members reportedly came together in true community spirit, sharing a traditional pot of food, symbolizing unity and togetherness.

Again, kuddos to Chief Corbette and his team.
Very well done sir. Just maybe we will be able to forgive you all for all the miss-steps made under the theme; “For all have sinned”.
So, to Poopooyou, Chichi and Commissioner M-Lissa I say, let the chief do his job souplay. As you can see, he is more competent than all of you koo-noo-moo-nous put together. Go Corbette!! Although he is no Alpee, his steadfastness reminds me of him a lot. He does not mix matters.
Community policing plays an integral part in crime fighting and crime prevention. I wish you all well.
