In a move meant to underscore its commitment to professionalism and integrity, Cricket West Indies (CWI) has suspended fast bowler Alzarri Joseph for two matches.
This decision follows an on-field incident during the 3rd CG United ODI against England at the Kensington Oval, Barbados, which was deemed to fall short of CWI’s standards. Joseph is reported to have left the field after an argument with captain Shai Hope during the match.
According to a BBC report, the 27-year-old Joseph was unhappy with a field placement off his bowling, and did not celebrate dismissing Jordan Cox before walking off at the end of the fourth over.
West Indies started the next over with only 10 players on the field and Joseph walked off again later after two misfields off his bowling.
Miles Bascombe, CWI Director of Cricket, emphasized the importance of upholding core values within the sport. “Alzarri’s behavior did not align with the core values that Cricket West Indies upholds. Such conduct cannot be overlooked, and we have taken decisive action to ensure the gravity of the situation is fully acknowledged,” Bascombe stated.
Joseph, recognizing the impact of his actions, issued a public apology. “I recognize that my passion got the best of me,” he said. “I have personally apologized to Captain Shai Hope, my teammates, and management. I also extend my sincerest apologies to the West Indies fans—I understand that even a brief lapse in judgment can have a far-reaching impact, and I deeply regret any disappointment caused.”
CWI said its remains steadfast in its mission to promote a culture of respect, integrity, and discipline both on and off the field, ensuring the highest levels of professionalism within the game.
this was no punishment….it remind me of the highness….even a past pal rep will get a ministry….just to hide all his secrets….them pal reps and joseph should be punish severely…..joseph should be suspended for one year…
Alzarri’s undisciplined, bizarre and infantile behaviour has overshadowed such a brilliant performance from Kacey Carthy’s exceptional maiden century and Brandon King’s equally superlative performance.
This is a first in an international cricket match where one disgruntled, mediocre, fast bowler exited the field of play for not getting his own way. What was Wizards thinking? This was school yard cricket being played by unruly teenagers?
This unthinkable behaviour from a vice captain warranted at least six months suspension, mandatory counselling sessions during the 6 month period, and three apologies – one directly to the captain, another to his teammates and the third to the Caribbean people.
Lack of self a discipline is a fast spreading epidemic in our society. We have to stamp it out!
This guy needs extended consultation with a trained psychologist. Personally, i feel the punishment was mild, and he was given just a slap on the wrist. I wait to see if he learns!
Good ODI series win by West Indies. Well done Kacey Carthy and Brandon King.
A simple denial of a field change could cause a vice captain to make such an irrational decision. Man, there was some sort of seething resentment before this particular game.
I read a comment on social media that he (Alzarri) was very enraged when he was left out of the 2nd ODI which was played in Antigua. Apparently, he was still seething about his omission.
The guy did not weigh the serious consequences of his thoughtless decision. He feels entitled. To be brutally honest, he is nothing special like many of our now retired fast bowlers of the recent past.
That’s all? Joke that man. It’s like resting him for two matches for this kind of embarrassment. Wasn’t he supposed to be the vice captain? Man he deserved at least five days and if he was vice captain double time, so others would get a strong message
