Trinidad & Tobago fast bowler Joshua James has been officially authorized to resume bowling in all West Indies international and regional cricket matches following the successful completion of a corrective program and a subsequent review of his bowling technique.
Cricket West Indies reports indicated that James was first reported for a suspect bowling action during the West Indies Breakout League earlier this year. Officials raised concerns during his first two matches against the Barbados Pelicans on April 25 and the Guyana Rainforest Rangers on April 26, both played at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad.
At the time, following standard procedures, video recordings and a detailed report were sent to Loughborough University for impartial evaluation.
On April 28, the university’s Independent Assessor issued an Opinion Report confirming that James’ bowling action was illegal, with deliveries surpassing the allowable elbow extension limits set by ICC regulations. Consequently, he was suspended from bowling in all competitions sanctioned by the West Indies Cricket Board and other domestic leagues worldwide. Since then, James reportedly has engaged in an intensive corrective training program under the guidance of the Trinidad & Tobago Cricket Board.
Currently, the organization has stated via press release that updated footage showcasing his revised bowling action was submitted to Loughborough University on August 8, 2025. The latest Opinion Report stated that his technique now conforms to the relevant regulations, and he has been cleared to bowl again immediately.
The West Indies Cricket Board stated that it recognizes Joshua James’ dedication during the remedial phase and extends its gratitude to the coaching and support staff who played a role in his rehabilitation.
It’s great to see Joshua James making a successful return to bowling after going through the corrective program.
This should never have happened if Joshua James played in the under 15, 17, and 19 regional competition.
If he played in the above competitions, it’s shameful that his coach or coaches could not pick up the illegal or suspect action, very early and remedy it as soon as possible.
When illegal bowling actions are suspected too late, the bowler becomes totally ineffective after corrective actions are taken.
