Cricket West Indies (CWI) congratulated Hayley Matthews, captain of the West Indies Women’s team, following her receipt of the ICC Women’s Player of the Month award for June 2025.
The 27-year-old Barbadian all-rounder has now matched Australia’s Ashleigh Gardner with four such awards, highlighting her position as one of the leading all-rounders globally, shared the CWI.
The organization said via statement that her recent performances during the home series against South Africa garnered particular recognition, showcasing her consistent skill across formats.
During the limited-overs series, despite the West Indies falling short in the ODI segment with a 2-1 defeat, Matthews made substantial contributions with both bat and ball. She accumulated 104 runs over three matches, including a vital half-century in the second game, and also took four wickets. Her influence was especially notable in the T20I series, where she led the team to a narrow 2-1 victory and was named Player of the Series. Her performances included a top score of 65 not out in the final game and an overall tally of 147 runs, along with two key wickets.

Expressing her appreciation upon receiving the award, Matthews emphasized her commitment to team achievements.
“It’s always a good feeling to be named Player of the Month and I appreciate the recognition from the panel. This past month was another strong one for me, and I was especially pleased with the way we played as a team to secure the T20I series win against South Africa,” she stated.
She also highlighted that individual awards are secondary to team progress, adding, “Individual awards are never the goal, but they’re a reflection of the hard work that goes in behind the scenes. The focus now is on building momentum, for myself and for the team as we continue pushing towards bigger results and a stronger future for women’s cricket.”
According to the media statement, since her debut at age 16, Matthews has been a vital figure for West Indies cricket, playing a key role in their historic 2016 Women’s T20 World Cup victory and remaining a leader as the team prepares for future challenges. Her latest accolade marks her fourth ICC Women’s Player of the Month award, previously received in November 2021, October 2023, and April 2024.
