In a first wave of fallout from escalating tensions in the Gulf Region, striking close to home for the Caribbean, the Cricket West Indies (CWI) has announced that the West Indies Senior Men’s Team, currently in India after their exit from the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, are experiencing a delay in their departure.
A statement from team officials explained that the delay is due to ongoing international airspace restrictions resulting from the recent military action.
According to the release, these airspace restrictions have disrupted several flight routes across the region, prompting airlines to modify their schedules for safety reasons. As a result, the cricket team’s flight plans out of India have been affected, leading to delays in their return journey.
CWI says it is actively collaborating with the International Cricket Council (ICC), government authorities, and airline partners to arrange the earliest and safest travel options for the team and support staff. They add that ensuring the safety and well-being of everyone involved remains their top priority.
Currently, the team is still situated in India and is reported to be safe and in good health. CWI is closely monitoring the evolving situation and will provide further updates once travel arrangements are confirmed.
The organization has expressed appreciation for the understanding and patience of fans, families, and all stakeholders during this uncertain time, acknowledging the unpredictable impact of the regional tensions on their plans.
