The Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC®) has updated its Professional Learning Institute (PLI) to enhance the skills and training of educators throughout the region. CXC® has historically provided orientation and training workshops for teachers to familiarize them with its various qualifications. The PLI’s training initiatives are described as collaborative, involving strategic partnerships with development organizations, teacher training colleges, and vocational and professional development agencies.
Among the range of training and professional development options, CXC® is introducing courses that respond to specific demands. On September 3, a new course titled Digital Education Practitioner (Level 1) was launched, accessible through the CXC® Professional Learning Institute’s online platform at pli.cxc.org. This course has been created in partnership with the Commonwealth of Learning, with whom CXC® has established a Memorandum of Understanding.
“We are expanding confidently into new territory with the Digital Education Practitioner (Level 1) course, given our over 50 years of experience in assessment”, remarked Dr Eduardo Ali, the Pro- Registrar and Deputy CEO of CXC®.
The Digital Education Practitioner – Level 1 course is billed as an introductory asynchronous online program aimed at providing educators and educational professionals with vital digital skills and competencies essential for effective teaching, learning, and assessment in digital settings. It also emphasizes the development of digital identities and the utilization of digital resources to improve educational practices and learning outcomes.
According to the Council, “this course will allow educators across the region to study at an affordable price, at their own pace, for the six to eight hours required to complete the course requirements.”
It marks the first in a series of forthcoming courses that the organization plans to offer to support educators in enhancing their teaching skills in both traditional and online environments.
“With this credential, more of our Caribbean teachers can gain the competencies and confidence to deliver digital content to our students of today, in more engaging ways” stated Dr Ali.
This initiative is being made available to the regional Education and Training system through a Memorandum of Understanding with the Commonwealth of Learning.
