The Dominica Amateur Basketball Association (DABA) has announced the preliminary training squad for the Dominica National Basketball Team. The team is preparing for the Kréyol Memorial Day Cup 2025, a regional tournament that will include national and all-star teams from Benin, Martinique, Guadeloupe, and Dominica. A press release from the sports organization said that the tournament aims to acknowledge the shared Creole heritage of the participating nations, adding that Dominica will host, and “serve as the cultural and geographical bridge in this historical event”.
Selected players are scheduled to report to the National Training Camp on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at 7:00 PM, at the Massacre Indoor Sports Complex. This will be the start of the team’s preparation program for the Kréyol Memorial Day Cup.
The training squad consists of local players and overseas-based players, who, the reports stated, “have demonstrated high potential, commitment, and passion for representing Dominica on the international stage.”
The coaching staff includes Head Coach Donnie Robinson and Assistant Coach Yannick Regis. They will supervise the training and evaluation process. The final team selection will be determined by performance, teamwork, fitness, and dedication during the camp.
The Dominica National Team’s participation in the Kréyol Memorial Day Cup 2025 is described as representing national pride, cultural unity, and the growing strength of Dominican basketball. The DABA states its commitment to developing talent and building a program that can compete regionally.
