Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Business and Diaspora Relations, Dr. Kenneth Darroux, has said that Dominica enjoys excellent relations with the United States of America.
He made the disclosure while speaking as a guest on Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit’s Annou palé talk show on the weekend.
According to him, the US has contributed significantly to regional and sub-regional security.
“Dominica always enjoyed cordial relations with the United States of America,” he said. “In fact, from what I recall, post the 2019 elections the US was one of the first countries to officially congratulate our new government.”
Dr. Darroux said that like everything else, there are differing views in life, same as countries.
“We respect each other mutually and we continue to work with the US,” he stated.
In a congratulatory message to US president Joe Biden and Vice-President Kamala Harris after their inauguration, Prime Minister Skerrit said he was looking forward to working with the US “in building a stronger and resilient world for all of us” and… “We stand united in addressing common challenges, whether it is climate-change or COVID-19.”
According to Darroux, records show that Dominica has supported the United States on many occasions at the UN [United Nations] on certain resolutions on the table at the UN.
“And we also work very close as it pertains to curtailing regional drug, human trafficking and other illegal activities,” Darroux added.
The records also show that Dominica and the US disagree on some significant issues, chief among them, the US’s rejection of the Venezuelan government under both Chavez and Maduro which Prime Minister Skerrit has publicly supported on several occasions and US sanctions against Cuba which the prime minister has publicly opposed and has on a number of occasions called for its removal.
“We can be friends and disagree on an issue; we can have differing views on issues but that doesn’t mean we cannot have diplomatic relations,” Foreign Affairs Minister Darroux argues.

Venezuelan Money was abused and shared with Tom, Dick and Harriet as the economy fell down heavily and the people of Venezuela suffered with little cash. The States funds were abused and neglected in the thought of investment and development.
Skerrit was not able to offer any advice nor plot any Economic Plan to direct failed Chavez to the right direction. Chavez, like Skerrit never see the bigger picture of Socioeconomic development.
Maduro also failed as it was as alledged that Venezuela’s economy and oil resources were in shambles as the oil industry deteriorated with conflict and abused reduced the economy.
