The Dominica Hotel and Tourism Association (DHTA) has expressed deep concern about the actions that transpired on the evening of Monday, November 18th.
“We recognize that it is citizens’ right to protest but encourage persons to do so peacefully and within the rule of law,” the DHTA stated in a release issued today.
The release goes on to state, “During this heightened political environment, we advocate for all parties involved, including the Government of Dominica, Law Enforcement, representatives of political organizations and the citizenry to dialogue on a way forward to solve the impasse which is clearly contributing to the current situation.”
The DHTA is also appealing to both political entities and private citizens to err on the side of reason and to refrain from taking actions that will further affect private sector livelihoods and Dominicans by extension.
The Association noted that the effects and impact of Maria are still being felt by the private sector and called for reason to prevail “among all persons and entities involved.”
“We pray for peace and violence-free elections as Dominicans prepare to exercise their franchise in the coming elections,” the release concluded.
Thank you DHTA. This is a man made Maria right there. It is very sad, shameful and disgusting to see what the Leaders of the UWP and it’s supporters is doing to our beloved Dominica on a year to year basis. While some take pride in building others take joy in destroying. I’ve been back to my homeland for a little over 2 years now after leaving out of Dominica for meny years. But I have always been a proud Dominican. Infect I talk so highly about my country to tourists and visitor while living abroad that made them visit the island . It is my prayers , hope and dream that we as Dominicans put all party colours, party difference aside and work for the greater good of the country.
Lennox is a joker he kw fully well he will lose thats why he and his SUETIWER SUPPORTERS ANGRY.
DHTA. Don’t waste out time. You know very well who is preventing electoral reform. Write to Mr. Skerrit directly and tell him to free up the people. As long as the people feel the elections will not be fair, there will be deba in Dominica.
Indeed DHTA we all pray for a violence free election , but what baffles me is the omission of the word ”FAIR” from your requests .
What Dominica really needs is a ”VIOLENT FREE AND FAIR ELECTION”. do not omit the word FAIR.
One man, and one man only stand in objection to that . He stubbornly refuses to facilitate that process .
We all have our personal beliefs , but he , and he alone knows why .
I will stand by my belief that he is fully aware of the unfortunate mishap of losing the protection of Diplomatic immunity and what will befall him . .
The DHTA wants peace, civility and responsibility but NEVER have I heard it appeal to the government to implement the changes recommend by the International organisations!!! Does the DAHA only talk when a situation is likely to affect it??😥🤔🤔
DHTA calls for Dialoge on electoral reform impasse?
I wonder which members are calling for that. The big boys Nassief and Raphael are not calling for anything like that, infact they probably don’t want reform in the first place. They need Skerrit to stay in office for as long as possible in order to get more state funds for nothing and to avoid questions what the state will get from them for the initial CBI investment. The DHTA should refuse Nassief and Raphael membership of their body as they taint the integrity of the entire organisation. We need to isolate the big Skerrit supporters and boycott their businesses whenever we can. It’s these people that keep that tyrant in power in exchange for ‘help from the government’. However, this help is not Skerrits to give as this money belongs to all of us and not just the few! DLP voters need to rethink their voting habits and they need to stop being satisfied with Skerrits leftovers.
Let me first declare that I don’t subscribe to violence nor the destruction of property. DHTA, you have refused to admit the main reason for the heightened tension in the country. It’s electoral reforms or lack thereof. You have the influence to make a positive difference in making the government do the right thing. The voice of the people is the voice of God.
O know thay Dominica was discovered by Skerritt. I had no idea that Dominica is the only island on this earth to have had protest. I guess the tourists come from heaven. Then again wasn’t it because of protest Satan was kicked out of heaven??? I am almost certain that the president of that body is Nassief. what a bunch of hypocrites. If you are so concerned of the impact of the protest on the tourism business why didn’t you as a body calm on Skerritt to give the reforms as recommended? It is always better to prevent sickness than to treat it.
For years you all watch Dominica and it less fortunate get assaulted by Skerrit and his band of criminals and said nothing.I will say every action there’s a reaction so now the people are fed up and it might get worse before it get better in other words no justice no peace.DHTA and many other said nothing when people were being victimize but now they speak because it might affect their bottom line.
The DHTA should call on the prime minister to implement electoral reforms. Stop being hysterical about the situation. The people have been asking for electoral reforms and one man has decided that electoral reforms will never happen under his watch. Roosevelt Skerritt doesn’t own Dominica. He will be thrown out by the ballot or by the people. He will never serves as PM he is done.
They haven’t got the guts to do that. They rather pussy foot around and sit on the fence! After all there might be some more CBI money kicking around…
