Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Discover Dominica Authority (DDA), Marva Williams, said that the 25th Edition of the World Creole Music Festival (WCMF) is a significant financial investment, but the event is expected to greatly benefit the Dominican people.

Speaking with Ambassador Leroy ‘Wadix’ Charles on the Crele HeartBeat Program on Wednesday, Williams put her assertion into context, explaining: “Investment in the festival this year is a little over 13 million-[dollars]. It is a very expensive undertaking, but it is worthwhile.”

“When we look at the economic impact as it relates to festivals in Dominica and more so the World Creole Music Festival, and recent studies that were done, that amount of investment in the World Creole Music Festival–it is going to circulate and for each dollar you are going to get nine times [the] return,” she asserted.

She continued, “Who is benefiting from that circulation? Not only the major airlines or the ferries, but you have the people from Dominica. The taxi drivers, the vendors, the hairdressers, the restaurants, those who sell little merchandise, these are the people, the vendors within the stadium as well, the service providers who we are engaging to help us put together that event, because the small team at DFC, they cannot do it alone.”

Williams added, “They have to engage other individuals to help with production, stage management [and] all these individuals are the other benefiting from that investment.”

This year’s festival is scheduled for October 24-26 at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium.

WOW!! 117 millions from this year’s festival. Don’t know how you arrived there but I can’t wait for your financial report when it’s over. If my memory serves me well the festival has been running at a loss. Wishing the majority of those $$$ remains in Dominica.

Where is the evidence of your assertion, miss CEO? How did you arrive at this 9-fold return? Any data to bolster your outrageous statement? You’re saying this event stimulates the equivalent of 20% of Dominica’s annual GDP… in only 3 days?
    Absolute nonsense.
