The Ministry of Tourism, alongside the Discover Dominica Authority (DDA) has extended congratulations to Rosalie Bay Distillery (RBD) and Oceans Forward following their receipt of a Silver Award at the 5th Annual Anthem Awards. The accolade was awarded in the category of Sustainability, Environment & Climate – Product, Innovation or Service (Non-Profit). This recognition, according to the DDA, underscores Dominica’s increasing prominence in environmental innovation and sustainable practices on an international stage.

Rosalie Bay Distillery earned this distinction for its pioneering approach as the world’s only conservation distillery.   The company commits all its profits to marine conservation efforts within the local community. It also produces high-quality craft rums that are fully traceable from the farm to the bottle, based at its facility in Rosalie, an initiative that the Authority says exemplifies how responsible business practices can contribute directly to the preservation of the island’s natural environment.

The distillery’s conservation-centered model also plays a vital role in bolstering community resilience. Their “Pour to Protect” campaign links the sale of their rum to tangible marine conservation results, while simultaneously supporting local livelihoods.

“This conservation-driven approach also strengthens community resilience. The “Pour to Protect” concept links rum sales to marine conservation outcomes and supports livelihoods through jobs in sugar cane cultivation, supply chain operations and distillery functions. This connection between economic activity and conservation creates sustainable benefits for communities that depend on healthy marine ecosystems”, outlined the DDA press release.

Both the Ministry of Tourism and DDA state view this achievement as a significant step in Dominica’s ongoing sustainability efforts, says the write-up.

The work of Rosalie Bay Distillery, Oceans Forward and local conservation partners continues to reinforce national priorities in environmental protection, community development and responsible tourism”, acknowledged the Discover Dominica Authority.
