DLP presents its election manifesto; asks Dominicans to ‘judge us’

The Dominica Labour Party (DLP) has launched its 2019 Manifesto.

The Manifesto, entitled ‘Dynamic Dominica’ a New Season of Development, was presented to the Dominican public at a meeting held on the Mahaut Playing field on Thursday night.

The party gave the assurance that whatever was delivered on Thursday night will be delivered to Dominica because the DLP has demonstrated that it keeps its promises.

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit who was addressing DLP supporters gathered at the event said the manifesto is laid out with a pictorial that traces the history, the challenges faced and the success of labour.

“It then goes into broad sections, building resilience is section 1. This, as you know, is my signature initiative,” he revealed. “While most people think resilience in the environmental context, the manifesto seeks to create resilience building in a social and economic context.”

Skerrit continued, “It is the goal of the labour party that I lead, to build something valuable, sustainable and enduring.”

According to him, the country’s national infrastructure has to sustain the people who live in the Dominican society.

“The economy must sustain infrastructure and the people,” he stated.  “It’s the people who must build the infrastructure and build productive capacity into the economy.”

To address climate resilience Skerrit said the DLP intends to put its utility on the ground.

“Utilize building standards that allow our properties to stand against extreme weather events…,” he stated, “we will build disaster resource centres across Dominica with community evacuation plans at Castle Bruce, Grandbay, Jimmit, the Kalinago Territory, Marigot, Portsmouth and Roseau.”

The prime minister said that this will be accomplished, “by utilizing renewable energy from geothermal resources, banning single-use plastics and giving incentives for electric vehicles.”

Furthermore, Skerrit said his party’s plans to construct 5000 climate-resilient houses is well on the way, “as our efforts to reinforce our drainage and defenses and establish in Dominica, a global centre for climate studies.”

He mentioned also that his party plans to expand the country’s cruise capacity by building a cruise port to hold more cruise ships and bring greater activity into the city.

The construction of a new International Airport also forms part of the DLP’s 2019 Manifesto.

The DLP leader said the Manifesto ends with the section Dynamic Dominica and the world.

“It deals with the Dominican diaspora whose skills, goodwill, energy and resources we need to help build ‘Dynamic Dominica’,” he indicated. “It also points to the fact that this government prudently extended our global footprint with strategic friendships which advanced our national interest.”

He went on to say that his party is offering Dominicans the only real development plan that has been put on the table which presents the social policies and programmes that will make a difference in people’s lives.

“It demonstrates how young people will get new opportunities and it indicates by what means the country’s seniors would be given comfort as they age,” he said.

“This is a country in which there are new opportunities for all,” the prime minister continued, “This is a country in which all our citizens are respected and looked after irrespective of their political affiliations.”

Skerrit said in this election, the moment has come for labour to lay its plan before the country and say, “judge us.”

“We ask you to judge us on five things,” he indicated.

1.      The quality of labour’s performance as a government, having to face two hurricanes virtually back-to-back and one of them with the devastating power of Maria.

2.      The progress of Dominica over the last 20 years, we have moved from the island with the least development to one which is growing rapidly and comparing favourably to our neighbours who used to be far ahead of us.

3.      The social services, healthcare, education, housing and infrastructure labour has put in place in Dominica which has modernized this country.

4.      Labour’s delivery on its past promises made on political platforms and in previous manifestos

5.      The quality and breadth of labour’s new vision for the Commonwealth of Dominica.

The Dominica Labour Party Manifesto is now available at www.dominicalabourparty.org

Meantime, the opposition United Workers Party (UWP) plans to launch their 2019 Manifesto on Friday 29th November in Roseau.

Skerrit, leave us alone with your constant lies and empty promises. The only thing you haben given Dominica is corruption and nepotism.
All we want from you now is to give back our money and then leave the island. Don’t forget to take the Go Go dancer with you!

:?: Did the one-man rogue regime said that he keeps every promise :?: First of all he lied about his citizenship on nomination day a few elections ago, bin bobol, fertilizer bobol, land transfer bobol, illegally obtaining million dollar land that his salary can’t afford, 4 pillar project promised since 2004 which was supposed to be completed in 2010 including the so-called state of the art hospital, yet to be completed. The international airport promised to start the day following 2014 elections. I could go on and on with failed empty promises by the one-man rogue regime prime mistake!!!

The report card is on the ground. An economy solely based on the sales of passports. Manufacturing is dead, tourism is low. agriculture is at its lowest. Banks are in serious problems. Unemployment is extremely high.Etc etc.
It will take a miracle to reverse this Country back to prosperity.

First off, all these manifesto by both sides are same ole political talk. The part on this one about marijuana is extremely disappointing as they have been outdone by little Antigua, St.Vincent that already passed legislation and allows its citizens to have up to 4 plants ‘per household’, not a misely ounce that can only result in continued harassing and punishing our people, and I promise you under these circumstances they will. You see, most people are more interested in the recreational use period. The medicinal part is gravy, so what’s going to happen, jail them for bits of the plant…a plant, when all else around us is avoiding jailing their citizens as part of their strategy? This part is shameful and doesn’t go far enuff to address the issue. You have got to legalize cannabis like tobacco is. This is selling us short. Back to the drawing board, and quick, so we can start enjoying the benefits that far outweigh the risks.

My people, My message to you is please ignore Skerrit with this nonsense he wrote. He said the moment has come for labour to lay its Bobol plans before country and say, “judge us.” “Yes we will”
“We ask you to judge us on five fake lie makeup things,”
1.The quality of labour’s performance in government, face two hurricanes back-to-back and one (Skerrit/DLP) with devastating power with Skerrit & DLP. Add Bobol
    2. The bool & failures of Dominica over the last 20 years, Skerrit moved from the least development to one which is growing rapidly into corruption, poverty, begging, insults unfavourably to our neighbours who are still far ahead of us.
3.The social services, healthcare, education, housing (Liar) and infrastructure labour failed in all places in Dominica which has scandalized our country.
    4. Labour failed to deliver on its past promises made on political platforms and in previous manifestos.
5.The quality of failed labour’s old vision for our Dominica is Bobol & lies…

Skerrit this failed corrupt Government, you are Judged as this failed PM scam.
DLP asks Dominicans to ‘judge us’, these scams, and this we will do.
    1. Skerrit has failure us over the past 19years. He has, and never had any vision to develop our Dominica.
    2. Skerrit, we have judge you well, you have been found guilty for a number of corrupted, Bobolistic activities.
    3. The Red Clinic Bobol, where gave cash to poor people to love you?
    4. You have killed our banana industry and you have brought in devious passport sale scam that Hon Lennox has challenged you one. The issue is where is our Money Skerrit. 5. Recall the Bin Bobol, 6. The Fertlizer Bobols that you denied until Hon, Decent Linton exposed you, when you first said it was a “mistake” (Liar) but further investigation proved that you lied and abused your office of states funds. 7.Has this money been recovered, repaid? Have you contacted the McIntyre family in Pennsylvania. Was that the state`s money? Man Go to hell, Go…

Dominicans are easily misled. Here you have a party that’s been in power for more than 15years.
You can go back look at their legacy. Corruption, lack of transparency, victimization, the loss of Ross university, mass exodus of people often times their own supporters, red clinic, the distribution of hurricane relief along party lines, 90% failure to keep campaign promises, lies, deceit, scandals, irrational behavior, dictator behavior…… I could go on and on

Do not allow this party to get another term. This madness has to stop for our kids sake. Dominica deserves better, Dominica rise up and take your place in the world!

  13. DLP must GO. Get out!
    November 16, 2019

I have already judged you. You have be found wanting. It is high time for your corrupt and incompetent and dangerous regime to get out of the governance of this country. Dominica deserves better.

Old promises like bro Anancy washing the same egg several times. Old promises like the new airport, rehashed like people putting the same fake Christmas presents under the Christmas tree every year. Promise a lot, but give a little. Blame everything on hurricanes. The people of Dominica have already did their judging. It is just a matter of putting it to paper, and letting DLP know that the time for continued unfulfilled promises is over.

While we on the manifesto there is a candidate currently alleged to have raped a young lady in a particular constituency. That candidate knows himself. Mr Prime Minister don’t you think that this candidate should resign as a Minister and as a Candidate?

Don’t you think that this candidate should also be removed from the picture depicting all your the candidates?

I can understand a candidate being a go go dancer in New York but a Rapist? What a shame after 41 years of independence

Same old photo album with the same old lies and propaganda. Did their 2014 manifesto say how $1.2 billion dollars would disappear? But that’s the amount they stole from us. So they don’t go by manifesto as manifesto is not any guide to these thugs.

    November 15, 2019

This is a poorly organized manifesto that lacks innovation, lacks vision, lacks creativity, lacks hope, lacks thought.

It is dishonest, deceptive, delusional and unrealistic.

It is empty like the leadership who prepared it.

It’s time to vote them out and vote in new and fresh ideas. It’s time for Labour to go

Vote for the United Workers Party – Team Dominica for a breath of freshness and visionary leadership

“The party gave the assurance that whatever was delivered on Thursday night will be delivered to Dominica “”because the DLP has demonstrated that it keeps its promises””.”

    Nice……

Did you keep your word when the August 6-9, 2019 report was presented?

You did not respect The Commonwealth, The entire Caribbean and the OAS, how are you going respect Dominicans by keeping your words.

All your manifesto had done is to tell us how you plan to steal the election, and make Dominica ungovernable as a result.

If the Haitians help you to win, we will employ the technics and methods used in Haiti.

Prime Minister, Sir, I perceived an insight a while ago, which told me that you are fully matured as the primary Leader of our Nation, and that maturity is now blazing in all your works on behalf of the people of Dominica.

You are now in the stage where production is entering “full bloom”; the blossoms are everywhere for the eye to see.

Jesus once said that the harvest was ready but the workers are few; with you and us, there is a difference.

The Harvest is ready and the people of Dominica are determined to allow you, as our Leader, to continue with your governing body to plow that harvest of which: “All shall eat” and there will be enough left for years to come.

Most people cannot accept your claim that you are a disciple of Jesus, because they lack knowledge of God

But you are right! And may He continue to find favor in you, as you humbly allow Him to work through you, for the sake of His people and yours, in Dominica. Blessings!

I must admit that this is the first time I have not read a commentary before commenting on it.. Reason, there is little or no accomplishment over the span of twenty years of DLP’s rulership. I keep it honest. Dominica has regress like the receding hairline of the corrupt Misleader. Here is the DLP dubious record in government for the last twenty consecutive years:
    1) Prodigious Shrinkage of the Economy
    2) More Citizens Below the Poverty Line Than Ever In the History of Dominica
    3) Agriculture, Agro-Processing, Manufacturing, Tourism, Productivity of the Public Service , National Security, Infrastructure, Sports just in a deplorable state.
    4) Skeleton Wages for Civil Servants
    5) Lowest Minimum Wage in the Eastern Caribbean
    6) Widespread Corruption and Bribery
    7) Corrupt Electoral System
    8) Many Babies, Children and Adults Going to Bed On Hungry Stomachs

Dominica is a colossal MESS. Worst country to live in the OECS. A fact that cannot be denied.

Liars and thieves. all they missing to do is commit murder. what annoys me more is that actual grown intelligent people see their rubbish, talk them down about “oh them man this them man that. is true is nonsense they doing, how much noise” then still running to wear red and shout labor and skerrit. half of them dont even know who their parl rep is. People. Doing something over and over again want expecting different results is the definition of madness. Leave those people red cool aid alone. It is only watering down our country and as a “proud” “Christian” nation, i see dominicans selling their souls in contradiction of what is right. The bible says by the sweat of your brow so shall your eat. But the DLP insists on bribery, handouts and treating. Hence the massive crowds every wednesday who line up for freeness.

DLP is the most destructive regime in the Caribbean, the worst government Dominica has had, and will ever have. A government that has had friends like Monfarred, Corallo, NG Lapseng and other criminals…A government that has squanderedered the people’s money resources so much that some leaders will do anything to remain in office. A government with members who are deeply in bed with the devil.

Why u bringing people that don’t live in the “sweet” Dominica you created to vote? If you worked well, you would be proud and confident. #shame!!

It is not uncommon to see pretty pictures in Manifestos, what’s most alarming is that you don’t accomplish even half of what was set out in the last Manifesto or the one before that.
