Dominica absent from UN vote condemning Russia as aggressor in Ukraine

Dominica has been recorded as absent when a vote was taken on Monday at the United Nations (UN) on a resolution about the war in Ukraine which condemned Russia as the aggressor in the conflict.

The resolution, named “Advancing a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in Ukraine” called for de-escalation, early cessation of hostilities, and peaceful resolution of the war which is now in its third year.

A tally of the votes handed out by the UN, shows a blank box for Dominica, meaning the island did not abstain nor vote for or against the resolution. No reason has been given for Dominica’s absence.

Other countries that were absent during the voting include Venezuela, South Sudan, Madagascar, Azerbaijan, Benin, Bolivia, Georgia, Morocco, and Turkmenistan.

The resolution was passed with 93 votes in favour, 18 against, and 65 abstentions. Although it is not binding nor does it carry political weight, it shows a global vote of solidarity against Russia’s attack on Ukraine.

Notably, the US has voted against the resolution, siding with Russia in a sudden turn of loyalties after three years of support for the Ukraine.

CARICOM countries were divided over the matter with Antigua and Barbuda, The Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Guyana, Jamaica, St. Kitts-Nevis, St. Lucia, and Trinidad and Tobago voting in favor of it while Grenada and St. Vincent and the Grenadines abstained.

The resolution was passed with 93 votes in favour, 18 against, and 65 abstentions. Although it is not binding or does not carry political weight, it shows a global vote of solidarity against Russia’s attack on Ukraine.

Global powers who voted for the resolution said it sends a clear message.

Britain’s U.N. Ambassador Barbara Woodward said that the terms of peace in Ukraine matter and must “send a message that aggression does not pay.”

“This is why there can be no equivalence between Russia and Ukraine in how this council refers to this war. If we are to find a path to sustainable peace, the council must be clear on the war’s origins,” she said.

French U.N. Ambassador Nicolas de Riviere said that while France was “fully committed to peace in Ukraine, we call for comprehensive, just and lasting peace, and certainly not for capitulation of the victim.”

DA ( I hope ) is probably against the Russian invasion of Ukraine
But DA now depends too much on China which is Poutine’s best friend against democracies
    So, silence was the rule

The entire world, except a few NO-BRAINERS in Dominica who just look at Western Media propaganda, know that Ukraine and NATO provoked this war, and now Russia is on the verge of VICTORY.
I side 100% with all countries that abstained and/or were absent.

To know who started the Rissia-Ukraine war we have to go back to 1962 (Cuban missile crises)when the then USSR decided to install missiles in Cuba 90 miles from Key West Florida. The Americans decided the missiles would pose a threat to America, they were prepared to start the 3rd world war.The Russians withdrew the missiles with the agreement the US would not invade Cuba.Today Joe Biden,Ukraine and NATO decided to make Ukraine a member of NATO and pose a threat to Russia on Russia’s doorstep. The leaders of NATO and the EU conspired to isolate and destroy Russia.Just look how quickly they put thousands of sanctions on Russia although Ukraine is not a member of NATO.On the other hand the African countries are invading each other and killing hundreds of thousands and the EU and NATO are turning a blind eye.Black Africans are not important.I agree with Donald Trump Ukraine and NATO started the war and Ukraine should pay for assistance given to them in the war by America.I am a Rosie…

Vladimir Putin is Roosevelt’s benefactor and idol. Their relationship is inseparable. Where do you Roosevelt got his dictatorial tendencies?

From his relationship with Putin, one of the world’s worst totalitarians, Roosevelt has lost all compassion, empathy, love, reasonableness, consideration, fairness, honesty, authenticity, et cetera.

I am not disappointed in the least that Dominica chose to boycott the vote on this
resolution. I have NADA expectations of Roosevelt doing things that are advance peace, love, unity and humanity. The man is a worthless bag of coal dust.
