Dominica announces under-23 team for regional 3×3 basketball tournament

The Dominica Amateur Basketball Association (DABA) has officially unveiled the four-member national Under-23 3×3 basketball team that will represent Dominica at the ANOCES U23 3×3 Basketball Tournament in the British Virgin Islands this weekend.

DABA shared via press release that the tournament is scheduled to take place on May 16 and 17, 2026, at the Multipurpose Sports Complex and will feature teams from across the Caribbean, including Antigua, St. Kitts, Grenada, St. Lucia, St. Vincent, and the host nation, BVI.

Representing Dominica at the tournament are Karim Daniel of PSC Falcons, Andel Olivacee of 767 Sports Club, Yawani Regis of PSC Falcons, and Rene Williams of BAA Sharks. The team will be guided by Head Coach Yannick Regis, while Yehudi John will attend the event as an official referee representing Dominica.

In addition to the on-court competition, Coach Regis is expected to participate in a regional coaching workshop aimed at strengthening coaching development and expanding basketball knowledge throughout the Caribbean.

Referee John will also be involved in a regional officiating clinic designed to support the continued advancement of basketball refereeing in Dominica and across the region.

According to DABA, the delegation highlights the Association’s ongoing commitment to developing athletes while also investing in the education and advancement of coaches and officials as part of its long-term plans for basketball development in Dominica. The Association congratulated the players, Coach Regis, and Referee John on their selection, noting that the opportunity reflects their dedication, hard work, and contribution to the sport at the local level.

DABA also expressed appreciation to the Dominica Olympic Committee for sponsoring the team’s participation in the tournament. The Association stated that the Committee’s ongoing support for youth sports and athlete development continues to create opportunities for Dominican athletes, coaches, and officials to compete and gain valuable experience both regionally and internationally.

The Association further acknowledged the efforts of tournament organizers and regional stakeholders for providing opportunities for Caribbean athletes to showcase their abilities and gain exposure in the growing 3×3 basketball discipline. DABA said the tournament forms part of its wider vision of restoring Dominican basketball to a stronger position regionally while building opportunities for the next generation of national players, coaches, and officials.

The Association is also encouraging the Dominican public and the wider basketball community to support the team as they represent the Nature Isle on the regional stage.
