
Dominica will throw its hat in the ring at the upcoming 2026 World Athletics Indoor Championships, scheduled to take place in Poland this week.
The nation’s hopes will be focused on Thea LaFond-Gadson, the 2024 Olympic and World Indoor gold medalist, who continues to demonstrate distinguished performance on the international stage.
A Dominica Athletics Association release stated that LaFond-Gadson is set to compete in the triple jump event on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at 2:38 pm local time, amidst some of the world’s top track and field athletes.
Organized by World Athletics, the event is billed as one of the most prestigious indoor competitions on the global athletics calendar, according to the DDA.
Ahead of the championships, LaFond-Gadson expressed confidence and enthusiasm about the upcoming competition.
She stated, “I am looking forward to competing in Poland next week. I’m coming into this part of the season feeling powerful and eager to bring back some hardware for Team Dominica! Most importantly, I’m grateful to be feeling healthy and pain free.”
The championships are expected to feature participants from more than 150 countries and are anticipated to deliver exciting performances across multiple disciplines within the arena.
The Association asserts that, for Dominica, the event offers another opportunity to showcase its growing presence in international athletics.
“Officials and supporters across the island will be cheering Lafond-Gadson as she takes the runway, continuing to raise the Dominican flag on the global stage,” read the statement.
