Dominica Bureau of Standard’s School Drive

The Dominica Bureau of Standards (the Bureau) as part of its sensitization programme conducted a series of public awareness sessions amongst secondary and tertiary schools around the island. This programme commenced on April 26th, 2021 and ended on May 18th, 2021.

The primary focus of the programme was the provision of information on the importance and use of standards, labelling requirements, laboratory testing, volume and measurement (metrology), quality assurance and certification. Information was also presented on the functions of the various units of the Bureau and their day-to-day activities by representatives of these units.

The information was relevant to students interested in areas such as manufacturing, entrepreneurship, agriculture and other sciences. The sessions were interactive and allowed the students to ask questions and participate in the discussions.

The schools visited were:

  1. Wesley High School
  2. Convent High School
  3. Saint Mary’s Academy
  4. Portsmouth Secondary School
  5. John’s Academy
  6. Community High School
  7. Castle Bruce Secondary School
  8. Martin Secondary School
  9. North East Comprehensive School
  • Isaiah Thomas Secondary School
  • Dominica State College

Feedback received from the schools indicated that the information disseminated during the sessions were timely and very useful for students and teachers alike. The programme was deemed a success.

Base on the information disseminated, the Bureau intends to host a competition amongst the schools.

Good day, unfortunately the Dominica Grammar School could not have hosted us at that time due to their prior activities. Hopefully in the future they can be accommodated.
