Dominica Cancer Society president dismayed at death rate; says more to be done

Yvonne Alexander

President of the Dominica Cancer Society (DSC) Yvonne Alexander has raised concerns over the increased number of cancer-related deaths on the island.

She was speaking during the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the DSC held recently.

“We are concerned, we are really very concerned. We should not be losing 20-year-olds to breast cancer,30-year-olds, 40-year-olds,” she said.  “We are of the view that much more is required to be done at the national level.”

She continued, “To reverse this trend we had an opportunity to view the World Health Organization cancer report 2020 and the reason why I went back to this report is because both speakers at last year’s AGM, Dr. Cassandra Williams and Dr. Callender made reference to that report.”

According to Alexander, the conclusion of that report has some recommendations that can probably be used as a template, “for how we may begin to consider what we can do to reduce the cancer burden on the country, that progress is inequitable and insufficient in low and middle-income countries.”

She stressed that enough progress is not being made.

She further noted that this concludes that investing wisely will save lives.

“The report highlights the need for governments to activate political will, to set priorities, and invest wisely to provide care for all,” Alexander stated.

“I am not saying our government isn’t doing that, I am just saying there is still much more to be done,” she added.

Furthermore, Alexander emphasized that the report focuses on what is referred to as key actions.

“And the  Dominica Cancer Society would like to see probably a little more work on, for instance, to strengthen governance, make a plan,” she noted. “If we have a national cancer plan I am not aware of it and I would apologize profusely for saying we don’t, so I don’t even want to say we don’t have one, but we need a plan.”

Alexander pointed out that national cancer plans and strong governance are the basis of an effective response and can improve outcomes.

Oh boy, it is sad, but why the disappointment. This disappointment expressed is not only related to Dominica it is a worldwide phenomenon, It is time to get honest answers and challenge the Medical establishment, it is time for people to educate themselves on nutrition and take responsibility for their health, it is a complex issue it is something that involves lifestyle. We are not in the dark ages any more, information is at our fingertips, as they would say. There are Cancer Societies all over, yes they do save some purpose, but should not be totally to be relied on. This
issue has come up again and again, as I said, It is time to change and challenge the established narrative.

The headline concerned me and I read with keen interest to see the death rate as highlighted in the headline, but I didn’t. I only saw age ranges cited.
Anyway the facts mentioned in the article still highlight a Bible Truth – we are in the “last days” of this world, with the foretold disease pandemics and epidemics. 2Tim3:1

   Why you religious zealots keep repeating this nonsense about last days? I am an adult and have been hearing that since I was a kid.

The Bible also says in the last day the old men will dream dreams and young men will see visions. In addition, the moon shall turn red. So is that happening in Dca? Come on people stop this nonsense and get serious about removing that cabal from office so our future generations can experience life in a democratic society. Yes we need to live our lives in accordance with the Bible; but world ending soon? Give a a darn break!

The world is NOT ending anytime soon. STOP this nonsense.

Mrs. Alexander sorry to burst your bubble but its not going to get better.

That’s the reason why members and supporters of the society must do whatever it takes to root this evil cabal of out office. If they cant afford to buy bandages and cafenol for the hospital you really believe is cancer they will attempt to successfully treat? Dca is a failed state under this dictator and as long as he is incharge of the public purse the rest is history. Get busy because the campaign has begun. Skerrit MUST go!

Why can’t you contribute something positive, on this forum without your silly
partisan politics belief. Always the same repetitive silliness of The Government, The Government, wow.

Your job is a very simple one but as it’s a universal phrase, “more needs to be done” while more people keep dying. Look at the people who are growing our food. They have no basic knowledge or training is chemical and fertilizer applications to grow food safely. They spread too much fertilizer in the ground. On top of that, they spray hazardous herbicides into the ground making matters worse. The lack of food inspection and guidelines to grow our food safely is the main cause of all these tumors that are found in our people. Chinese want to teach us how to raise fish. Are you kidding me? I’m used to throwing my line in the sea or river for a catch. Then, Haitians who are in desperate need of food and money to help their families are the ones growing our foods while we sit all day by the roadside waiting for crumbs from Roosevelt. Then you have “health officials” telling us that they are “very concern.” Well, we are very sick and worried. That’s a waste of time.
