The Dominica Chess Federation recently announced its inaugural Dominica Chess Festival 2025, a community-oriented event crafted to promote education, enjoyment, and unity through the game of chess—timed perfectly for the start of the new academic year.
DCF reported that the event is scheduled for Saturday, September 13, 2025, and will take place at The Promenade in Roseau from 11:00 AM until 3:00 PM. This festival, according to the organizers, is designed to serve as a fun and educational activity suitable for families as they prepare for the school year, as well as a lively gathering for the broader community.
Participants will have access to a variety of activities suited for all ages and skill levels. The day will commence with a formal opening ceremony, followed by light refreshments for special guests.
Throughout the event, visitors will have the opportunity to:
– Engage with Youth Chess Tables for play and learning.
– Meet and converse with Dominica’s national chess champions.
– Visit the teaching and discovery zone, where seasoned players will share tips and strategies.
– Discover more about the mission and initiatives of the Dominica Chess Federation.
– Experience the thrill of a large outdoor chess set.
Carlton Morvan, President of the federation, emphasized, “Chess is more than just a game – it builds critical thinking, patience, and community,” said Carlton Morvan, President of the Dominica Chess Federation. “This festival is our way of inviting everyone in Dominica, whether you’ve never played before or you’re already competing, to come together and experience the joy of chess.”
Admission to the festival is complimentary, making it an ideal outing for families, youth, and anyone interested in exploring the game. The Dominica Chess Federation encourages everyone to mark their calendars, bring friends, and join in this historic celebration of chess on the island.
