
The Dominica Christian Union Church gathered for its 66th Annual Island District Council on April 17 and 18, 2025, with the theme “Renewing Our Divine Purpose: Rekindling Our Commitment to Jesus Christ for Enduring Spiritual Revival.” A statement from the union said that this assembly, which represents the Church’s highest decision-making authority, was presided over by Regional Bishop Rev. Joseph Atherley and included 61 delegates from the Church’s 15-member congregations located throughout the island.
During the two-day event, delegates engaged in discussions, reviewing reports submitted by local churches and various district boards and committees. The gathering also included elections for leaders who will guide the Church in pursuing its mission over the upcoming year.
Rev. Bennette Thomas, who serves as the pastor of the Soufriere Christian Union Church, was elected as the new Island District Bishop, a term that will extend until March 28, 2027. He takes over from Rev. Lennox A. Timothy, who has dedicated the past eight years to this leadership position. Rev. Erickson George will continue to serve as Assistant Bishop.

– Pastor Lincoln Anthony
– Mr. Derrick Common
– Mr. Gairy Jno Rose
– Mrs. Marvlyn George – Trustees
Following the election, Rev. Bennette Thomas expressed his gratitude, stating, “I am deeply honoured to serve as the new Island District Bishop. Together, we will continue to strengthen our commitment to Jesus Christ and work towards enduring spiritual revival across our churches.”
The Council concluded with a Grand Worship Celebration on Friday, April 18, coinciding with Good Friday, held at the Goodwill Christian Union Church. This uplifting event feature
d inspiring music, heartfelt prayers, and a passionate sermon from Rev. Atherley, who encouraged the congregation to recommit to their faith and divine purpose, shared the statement.

Wo wo wo, another Christian missionaries church, where are the Muslims? Was this one formed in the 1800’s while loading India people onto slave ships for so-called ‘indentured’ work?
Well, they went back to their own image and likeness, Hindu/Chrishna – while we can’t wait for another Christian church. lol
