Dominica Council on Ageing to hold 29th AGM under the theme ‘Honouring the Past, Shaping Tomorrow’

DCOA members at a social gathering

The Dominica Council on Ageing Inc. (DCOA) has announced plans to host its 29th Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. at the St. Alphonsus Parish Hall in Goodwill. The meeting will be held under the poignant and forward-looking theme, “Honouring the Past, Shaping Tomorrow.”

The AGM is expected to bring together Council members and representatives from affiliate organizations to reflect on the Council’s impact over the past year while mapping out strategic steps for the future. The event promises to be both commemorative and aspirational, with special focus on strengthening national support structures for older persons in Dominica.

President Nigel Lawrence, who assumed leadership of the Council in May 2023, emphasized the importance of the gathering.
“We are excited to gather once again to share in meaningful dialogue, recognize our achievements, and strengthen our resolve to serve our ageing population with dignity and purpose,” Lawrence stated. “Our AGM is a critical moment of reflection, unity, and planning for the future.”

The meeting will hear reports on the Council’s activities over the past year, presentation of its audited Financial Statements and election of the Board of Directors. Key presentations will also feature the Past Presidents who have led and set the foundation for the DCOA.

The Dominica Council on Ageing has long served as a pillar of advocacy and support for the island’s elderly. Through its educational outreach, policy influence, and community-based programs, the DCOA has championed the rights and dignity of older Dominicans, especially its revered centenarians, who are honored as national icons of resilience and vitality.
