
The Dominica Cricket Academy has received a financial injection of $67,500 from the St Kitts & Nevis Patriots, a contribution aimed at strengthening the academy’s operations and advancing cricket development on the island.
Minister of State in the Ministry of Culture, Youth, Sports and Community Development, Senator Oscar George, confirmed the sponsorship during an interview, noting that the funds represent part payment towards the annual sponsorship of the academy.
“These funds, to the tune of $67,500, is just part payment towards the annual sponsorship, payment towards the Academy and of course, on behalf of the Ministry of Sports and the Government of Dominica,” George explained.
He expressed the Ministry’s gratitude to the Patriots and their Director, Mr. Mahesh Ramani, for their continued support.
“We sincerely thank the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots, and more specifically Mr. Ramani, who have made a significant contribution towards the operations of the Dominican Cricket Academy,” George said.
George described the academy as the premier cricket development program in Dominica, dedicated to nurturing young talent and promoting excellence in the sport.
“The main objective is to identify and nurture young cricketers by way of technical training, exposing them to specialized coaching and all-round cricketing mentorship,” he stated.
The academy also boasts an indoor training center equipped with modern facilities, allowing players to train uninterrupted. Over the years, it has produced several notable players, including Alick Athanaze, Kavem Hodge, Stephen Pascal, and Arsenio Fontaine, among others.
George highlighted the academy’s impact on sports development in Dominica.
“The Academy has been and continues to make a very significant, positive impact on our sports,” he noted.
He stressed the importance of the Patriots’ investment, describing it as vital to sustaining the academy’s mission.
“This financial support by way of investing in the operations of the Academy by the Saint Kitts and Nevis Patriots is so very important for us,” George said, adding his appreciation for the firm’s partnership in shaping the future of cricket in Dominica.
