Dominica has seized thousands of ammunitions and over 160 firearms since 2023, says Blackmoore

Minister for National Security, Rayburn Blackmoore, announced that law enforcement agencies in Dominica recovered over 3,000 ammunitions and over 160 firearms from 2023 to the present.

He was addressing a 3-day Inter-Institutional Roundtable meeting which was held from April 8 to 10, 2026.

The meeting was organized by the Commonwealth of Dominica’s Government, through its Ministry of National Security and Legal Affairs, in collaboration with the United Nations Regional Centre for Peace, Disarmament and Development in Latin America and the Caribbean (UNLIREC) and the CARICOM Implementation Agency for Crime and Security (CARICOM IMPACS),

“From 2023 to the present, 3,929 of ammunitions were recovered by our enforcement agencies,” he said.

Blackmoore further noted that for the same period, 161 firearms were recovered, and 121 people were arrested.

He took time out here to acknowledge the commitment, the bravery, and excellence of law enforcement officials.

“And with us this morning, in our mix, the finest who are representing the various law enforcement agencies.  And I want to specifically refer to the Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force and the custom and a customs and excise Division of Dominica,” Blackmoore stated.

He added, “Going forward, if we are to realize success in dealing and combating that threat to our civilization, it’s going to require a collective endeavor going forward.”

Reportedly, the effort forms part of Dominica’s ongoing drive to move forward the Caribbean Firearms Roadmap—a regional strategy aimed at tackling illegal gun trafficking, lowering levels of violence, and strengthening public safety across the Caribbean.

The construction of a new explosive storehouse in Dominica was also on the docket for the gathering.

You are on point Mr.Admin.The AK-47 fires 7.62 rounds of ammunition. The M-16 fires 5.56 rounds of ammunition. The French machine pistol is 9mm rounds. Most Glock is 9mm.The Shot guns are 12,16 and 20 bird, buck and slug.Ammunition from different firearms is ammunitions.Bwa-Banday must learn fast.DlLP supporters are not violent people even when UWP supporters called Rosie Douglas a communist,a jailbird an arsonist and a liar, they never destroyed public and private property. They never set fire to public roads. When DLP supporters were persecuted and victimized by UWP they never retaliated.

You all been in power for the last 20 plus years. So you see how much guns and ammo that came in under your reign and now coming back to bite you all? Even in parliament gun was making ding – dang and no arrest so that only half the story. I myself know that is not even half of whats still on the streets in G/Bay and Possie.Doh even talk about our capital where a section has been re-christened RED ZONE. Hmmmmmm!

Sadly, in many instances the popo have the intelligence but the papas and their foot soldiers are untouchable especially in Roseau where the new Comissioner M-Lissa run tings. I cant wait for a new administration that is serious about fighting crime instead of paying the usual lip service.

Who were they seized from Mr Blackmore? From friends of the government? From international and regional friends of the government or locals working on behalf of the government? You guys are so funny in your quest to make a dirty corrupt and dishonest government look good to the outside world. Mr Blackmore please substantiate your statement by who is arrested, charged and jailed for these crimes so we could do our own maths

Thank you for the response. The term “ammunition” is acceptable as both singular and plural for one type. Across various, unspecified types, “ammunitions” is appropriate. In this context, we settled on “ammunitions”.

‘Minister for National Security, Rayburn Blackmoore, announced that law enforcement agencies in Dominica recovered over 3,000 ammunition and over 160 firearms from 2023 to the present.’

From how many people (groups), how many cases?
Have all those potential criminals been prosecuted?

    Full transparency, please!
