Dominica hosts Kréyol Sports International Basketball Camp this week

Young athletes from the French West Indies alongside local participants, will be brought together for a week dedicated to rigorous basketball training and cultural exchange in Dominica. This initiative, which commenced today, is organized by Kréyol Sports International in collaboration with Caraïbes Sports et Développement Durable and Da Next Level Sports Management, and it will take place from October 28 to November 2, 2024.

According to the organizers, the event is designed to promote the development of youth basketball within the Kréyol community, seeking to establish a solid foundation for players aspiring to elevate their skills. Participants will engage in extensive training sessions aimed at enhancing individual abilities, all under the mentorship of seasoned coaches.

The camp features renowned coaches Lesly Bengaber from Guadeloupe and Camille Wener from Martinique, who emphasize essential basketball skills such as agility, shooting techniques, shot creation, offensive tactics, and defensive approaches. Local athletes will have the opportunity to train alongside peers from Martinique and Guadeloupe, fostering both athletic improvement and cultural exchange.

Moreover, local coaches are encouraged to join the training sessions, providing them with the opportunity to learn from the experienced coaching staff and enhance their own coaching methodologies. This camp is the inaugural event in a series planned for Dominica, with top-performing players being chosen for future camps in Guadeloupe and Martinique, thus offering additional growth opportunities for promising talent.

The training schedule is as follows:
– Morning Sessions: 8:30 AM – 11:30 AM
– Afternoon Sessions: 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM

The training will encompass vital basketball components, including ball handling, shooting skills, offensive plays, and defensive techniques. In addition to the basketball training, the camp will provide cultural experiences, allowing participants to appreciate the natural beauty and Creole culture of Dominica.

“This camp is a significant step in nurturing future basketball talent within the Kréyol-speaking regions, helping players and coaches alike improve their skills and build lasting connections,” said the organizers via press statement.
