The staff of the Dominica Library Information Services (DLIS) will have an opportunity to showcase their creativity and talent during the carnival season with a new initiative: the Chief Librarian Carnival Challenge, dubbed “Carnival Gwopel – DLIS Mas 2025.”
Chief Librarian (Ag.) Renita Charles said this new and special initiative, “DLIS Mas 2025,” aims to inspire, and celebrate team spirit, collaboration, and creativity among the staff members within the various units of the Dominica Library and Information Service across Dominica.
Charles stated that this event, in the spirit of carnival, will give them an opportunity to showcase their skills, embrace the spirit of carnival, and contribute to the festive atmosphere through artistic and cultural expression.
For this inaugural event, the various units will be judged in categories of best-decorated unit, best calypso, and best-dressed staff by a panel of judges for each category, who will select the winners.
The judging date for the calypso is February 19, 2025. Participants are required to upload a video of their calypso. The best-decorated unit will be judged on February 28, 2025, when the units will be inspected and judged. For the best-dressed staff, pictures will be uploaded to the DLIS Facebook page. The participant with the most likes will be chosen as the winner.
Participating units of the Dominica Library Information Services (DLIS) include the Dominica National Archives, the Documentation Center, the Roseau Public Library, the Portsmouth Library, the Marigot Library, and the Grandbay Library.
Charles encourages the public to participate, and support this carnival activity by following the Facebook page Dlis Rpl and liking and sharing the staff’s creative outfits.
This Chief Librarian Challenge, “DLIS Mas 2025,” is organized by the Chief Librarian in collaboration with GF Inc.
