Dominica Olympic Committee donates supplies to Community Hostels Inc, Grotto Home

The Dominica Olympic Committee (DOC) has made a significant contribution of toiletries and cleaning supplies to the Community Hostels Inc. (CHI) also known as the Grotto Home for the Homeless on Friday. Immediate Past President of the Grotto Home for the Homeless, Ainsworth Irish, who delivered remarks at the presentation ceremony said this tangible contribution will go a long way.

“We have about 40 residents here to give 3 hot meals on a daily basis. It has been very challenging for the Grotto Home over the last 2 to 3 years. ” he said. “I want to say how happy we are at the Grotto. I must say ‘we’, because I continue to assist them in all ways and means, although I have given up the presidency.”

Irish continued, “We are extremely delighted for this contribution.”

He added, “Christmas has just gone, but the New Year is coming on and with the challenges that the Community Hostels face on a daily basis, I think this tangible gift will go a long way.”

Furthermore, Irish describes this gesture as a very noble one.

“This is very significant and I want to wish you the best in the New Year and as the olympic committee continues to work tirelessly towards the improvement of athletics and sports in Dominica, coming on the heels of the Gold Medal by Thea Lafond, I am sure that the president and his staff will continue to do their best,” he stated.

Secretary of the DOC Hazel Bruno  encourages residents of the Grotto Home to make good use of the supplies presented to them.

.“It gives us great pleasure to make that presentation on behalf of the Dominica Olympic Committee and we hope that you will accept it and enjoy it and make good use of all of the items that are presented to you today,” she encouraged.

But what happened to the nine members of the new board most of them members of the civil service. Not one of them could be there? I paid a visit to the home and I saw the condition of the back it is a Jungle out there.can you imagine the Director of Agriculture is a board member and he has the place in such a mess, no wonder. looks like this is an All Talk and No Action group. Alas.

I want to commend the Dominica Olympic Committee (DOC) for its generous donations to the residents of the Grotto Home.
