Dominica has been ranked as the fifth among 25 of the most beautiful islands in the world to visit by the readers of the esteemed American magazine Travel+Leisure in its 2024 World’s Best Awards survey.
The country earned a score of 92.47 and got high praises for its unspoiled natural beauty and eco-adventures.
“The island is nicknamed “Nature Island” for its dense rain forests, volcanoes, hot springs, waterfalls, and black-sand beaches,” the magazine said.
“The underwater world also attracts scuba divers and snorkelers, with healthy, vividly-colorful coral reefs, marine life,
and volcanic formations.”
According to Travel+Leisure, close to 200,000 readers globally participated in the annual survey which assessed islands based on natural attractions, beaches, activities, food, hospitality, and value.
“Every year for our World’s Best Awards survey, T+L asks readers to weigh in on travel experiences around the globe — to share their opinions on the top hotels, resorts, cities, islands, cruise ships, spas, airlines, and more,” the magazine explained. “Over 186,000 T+L readers completed the 2024 survey. A total of more than 700,000 votes were cast across over 8,700 properties (hotels, cities, cruise lines, etc.)”
The magazine said that islands often promise travelers an escape to paradise but the top 25 offers a bit more.
“Yes, the pristine beaches and clear waters make for an idyllic setting for relaxation and rejuvenation — but these destinations can also host a range of exciting activities, from surfing and snorkeling to attending regional festivals and sampling local cuisine,” it said.
The number one island on the list is Maldives, followed by Phú Quốc (an island off Vietnam), in second place, followed by Bali, Indonesia in third place. Fourth place went to Milos, a Greek island, with Dominica in fifth.
The 25th island on the list is Zanzibar, which is located off the coast of Tanzania.
The Commonwealth of Dominica is beautiful by every standard… I’ve been there, been around and I can say that she is a class if her own, period
I have given up on that Iboo thing,it is a lunatic in the highest degree,as for Stan you have never visited Dominica.Dominica is the only island in the world where one can use river water to cook, drink, bathe and not get sick.
These types of ‘rankings’ will only impress people who are not well travelled. Its like saying a Nissan Navara pickup is the 5th best vehicle in the world . . .
Also we a native English and French patois/Dominica Creole speakers.
How do we parlay these various accolades into increased stay over visitors. One goal should be getting to a point where we have daily American Eagle service not just seasonal daily service.
You can’t have it both ways patner. Be grateful for what we HAVE.
Visit is one thing but to live…completely different scene. country nice country sweet but it HARD to live in.
How is “the country nice and sweet” but yet, “hard to live in?” You do realize that you contradict yourself in the same sentence, do you? A bit too heavy on the bottle when you posted this or you simply could not resist the orgasmic urge to speak out against Dominica?
Are you Dominican?
The people disliking my comment are the ones getting cool out and encouraging the nonsense that is happening here.
Why do some people get giddy headed about these meaningless rankings by mostly obscure agencies and organisations?
Where do we rank in according to the United Nations’ Human Development Index? This is, in health (life expectancy), knowledge (years of schooling), standard of living ( measured by the Gross National Income of residents).
Dominica is among countries with the lowest wages, highest unemployment, highest cases of NDCs. No Matt the instrument of measurement used, the country is a failed state.
Ibo , I’ve had it with you. Get out of the park and get a view. Do some traveling outside of Europe and America and see our competition relative nature.
We have this tendency of comparing ourselves to the worst countries to give ourselves comfort.
If we are to judge Dominica on natural beauty alone, there are few countries that can compare. But let’s be brutally honest since you want to make comparisons.
In many countries around the world domesticated animals are living much better than thousands of Dominicans. They have ready access to a reliable supply of water and electricity, food, healthcare. Do most of us?
CORRUPTION is a culture, a way of life under this current government. It’s systemic. . It has kept Dominica for the last twenty four years in perpetual poverty.
We have a handful of blind blue lunatics in this country, all they care about is destroying beautiful Dominica for political power.TRAITORS.As for the dense rain forest I agree with that.It is a beauty to walk the forest.
