National record holder in Shot Put, Treneese Hamilton has won the gold medal for Dominica in the women’s Shot Put at the Pan American Junior Games held in Paraguay’s capital Asunción.
She made a brilliant throw of 17.21m, giving her the edge to secure the first gold medal for Dominica.
According to a recent press release from the Dominica Olympics Committee, this competition marks Hamilton’s final outing as a junior athlete. DOC shared that she described the moment as somewhat bittersweet but expressed enthusiasm about competing and finishing her season positively.
From the outset, Hamilton established an assertive tone with an opening throw of 16.88 meters. Although her second attempt resulted in a foul, she responded strongly with a third-round effort of 17.03 meters, which comfortably placed her in the top position as she advanced to the finals. During the medal rounds, she recorded a distance of 16.33 meters, fouled on her fifth attempt, and ultimately clinched victory with a dominant final throw of 17.21 meters. None of her rivals managed to come within striking distance.
In reflecting on her achievement, Hamilton called her win a “big win” and noted it as a notable improvement from her performance at the 2021 PanAmerican Junior Games. Securing this gold medal marks the conclusion of her junior athletics chapter on a victorious note and grants her automatic qualification for the 2027 Pan-American Games in Lima, Peru. Nonetheless, her primary goal remains to qualify for the 2028 Olympic Games.
Hamilton also took the opportunity to inspire young athletes in Dominica, urging them to continue pursuing excellence and to have confidence in their abilities, emphasizing that dedication and belief can lead to success.
Among the nine competitors, Canada’s Liv Sands earned the silver medal with a throw of 16.46 meters, while Ecuador’s Belsy Quinonez took bronze with a mark of 16.40 meters.
Recently, Hamilton participated in her first senior-level meet, the NACAC Senior Championships held in the Bahamas. She believed that this experience served as valuable preparation for the upcoming PanAm Junior Games.
With one of the top-seeded distances entered in the event, Hamilton is considered a strong contender for a medal. She reportedly remains confident that her technical skill, ability, and determination will help her perform at her best during tonight’s competition.

As the last athlete representing Dominica at the Games, Hamilton will close out her participation in the event. The official closing ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, August 23, at 7 PM PYT / 6 PM ECT. Hamilton, along with teammate Addison James, will serve as flag bearers during the ceremony.
The ASU2025 Junior Pan American Games began from August 9-23, 2025, and featured over 4,000 young athletes from 41 countries across the Americas.
According to an article from asunciontimes.com these athletes are competing in a total of 28 sports and 42 disciplines.

@Lin Clown
Stop being an idiot for once.
Many people has referred to you as a fool and a clown, and you are giving them ammunition to do so.
This is not an olympic gold for your own information. Its just a junior competition.
BRAINLESS.
@a Clown
Does this idiot understand that this is not the first time that a Dominican youth is getting a gold medal.
Your clown. Did you understand what you read. This is not a Skerrit thing. Skerrit has destroyed the dreams of all young people.
Its the athletes work and the coach.
You seem illiterate.
This is the sole error of one individual. The government had nothing to do with it. In fact, the coach and not the godawful administration should be commended.
Excellent! Upgrade it to an Olympic gold when the time comes along. Congratulations!!
