Dominican art takes center stage in upcoming solo exhibitions at Secret Bay and Fort Young Hotel (updated)

Two of Dominica’s premier hospitality destinations—Secret Bay and Fort Young Hotel & Dive Resort—are set to host solo exhibitions by celebrated Dominican artists, reaffirming their commitment to promoting local culture and creative expression.

At Secret Bay’s Bwa Denn gallery, internationally acclaimed artist Heston Francis will unveil his latest solo exhibition, Roots: My Story to Tell, running from October 1, 2025 through January 30, 2026. The collection delves into themes of identity, heritage, and the profound ties between people and place, offering viewers a deeply personal and evocative visual narrative. Open daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., the exhibition invites both locals and visitors to engage with the spirit of Dominica through Francis’ distinctive artistic lens.

Meanwhile, Fort Young Hotel’s Old Oven Art Gallery will showcase Salt and Soul, a solo exhibition by Dominican artist Marica Honeychurch. Opening on October 20, 2025 and continuing through January 26, 2026, Honeychurch’s work pays homage to the island’s traditions and enduring cultural spirit. The exhibition, open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., is described as “a hope that this culture will not be lost or forgotten, but to still hold on to and share with joys something that makes us who we are.”

“These exhibitions not only celebrate two of Dominica’s most talented contemporary artists, but they also align with our shared vision at Fort Young Hotel and Secret Bay to bring the island’s vibrant culture and creativity to the forefront,” said Aaron Hamilton, Curator of the Art Galleries.

Both exhibitions are open to the public and offer a unique opportunity to experience Dominican art in two of the island’s most iconic settings.
