Health practitioners have undergone training on how to prepare for the advent of the deadly coronavirus in Dominica.

A two-day training began Thursday at the Dominica-China Friendship Hospital Laboratory.

Health Minister Dr. Irving McIntyre said during an interview with State-Owned DBS Radio that training is also conducted in other areas pertaining to the virus.

“While we are doing the training for the coronavirus, we are also doing the training in the gene expert technology which is what we are going to use to help us in diagnosing tuberculosis,” he said

According to him after the training is done there will be the validation process where the results have to be validated.

“It is relative to others so make sure that you have things correct and then after you have the validation then you can comfortably go and test for the virus,” McIntyre stated.

In a slight departure from what was said on Monday, Dr. McIntyre explained that Dominica is well on its way to becoming second in line for testing for the Coronavirus, with Trinidad and Tobago being the first.

“As of Monday, when I mentioned it, it wasn’t being done in the Caribbean as yet, so we are well on our way to maybe be the second, because Barbados is still trying to negotiate and to get their PCR testing and their coronavirus testing capacity to begin,” he said.

According to recent reports from BBC News there are now more than 42,200 confirmed cases of the Coronavirus across China.

The number of deaths has overtaken that of the Sars epidemic in 2003.

On Monday, 103 people died in Hubei province alone, a daily record, and the national death toll is now 1,016.

But the number of new infections nationally was down almost 20% from the day before, from 3,062 to 2,478.

The symptoms may be that of the flu and include runny nose, cough, sore throat and fever.

Some cases develop into a pneumonia of severe acute respiratory infections.

At this time, it’s unclear how easily or sustainably this virus is spreading between people.

I guess our Health practitioners never undergone training on how to prepare for breast cancer, prostrate cancer, hypertension and diabetes, since so many of our people died from these diseases the last 15vyrs? Oh but then again maybe is because we didn’t have the Skerrit / China hospital? Oh, maybe is because Dr. McIntyre wasn’t the minister of health? Well now that we have the Skerrit/ China hospital and a new Minister of health I wonder if Melissa gets pregnant again if she would give birth here this time or would still go to the US? Well maybe not the US because Al Jazeera told us that the house Diezani Madueke bought for them in 2015, where she resided is now under US investigation, so I don’t know how comfortable they are going to the US now.

You are now taking back your earlier statement that Dominica was first in the Caribbean to do testing for Corona virus.
De ordinary Dominican don’t realize what just happened!
At what point should I believe you?
You began by twisting the truth.. or rather, you lied!
False sense of health care readiness.
If we had a hospital in Marigot the training would be well placed at a hospital near our main airport.

See how vulnerable all you have us!!!!

Another display of foolery by our minister of health. Should he not be advised before this embarrassment? Why the rat race? We told DNO that TNT had Coronavirus testing kits from 07/02/2020, Barbados is on its way to start testing, yet we aimed for the headlines which exploded in our faces.

There are over 1,700 health care professional who have been infected with corona. The Chinese have been frugal with the truth. The disease has been in Hubei since December 2019 but was made known to the world in Mid-January. Infact, Dr Li Wenliang who first reported it, was silenced by the police, the first two bloggers who started reporting on the disease have disappeared without a trace and Dr Li is now dead. China claims there has been a weekly reduction in the diagnosis of new cases but they did not tell us that they reduced the numbers of persons they were testing. STOP CARNIVAL, Ministry of Health we cannot afford an outbreak in Dominica!! It mater not for whom the bell tolls, it tolls…
