Dominican shot and killed in Colombia

A Dominican has been shot and killed in Colombia, media reports from the Spanish-speaking South American country has indicated.

He has been identified as Waldron Shillingford, 39, also known as Boffa.

Media reports indicate that he was killed on Friday afternoon at around 2:00 in the rural area of Riohacha, which is the capital of the La Guajira department.

The reports say that residents of the Mounte Verde community, near where the shooting took place, heard several loud explosions and Shillingford was later found on the side of a highway that leads from  Riohacha to the township of La Florida.

The police were alerted and the body removed while an investigation into the motive of the incident was started.

It is unknown how long Shillingford had been in Colombia and what he was doing there.

Many Dominicans have take to social media to express shock at Shillingford’s untimely demise.

“This is unbelievable,” one person wrote on Facebook.

“Say this isn’t true. Not Waldron. Omg.,” another wrote.

Get rich quick or die trying! The rural area of Riohacha, capital of the La Guajira department is not a holiday destination in Columbia. Not even regular ordinary Columbians venture to this area!
La Guajira Cartel is a criminal organization that operates in the Guajira Peninsula on the Caribbean Sea, north of the border between Colombia and Venezuela. The cartel specializes in the control of contraband of all kinds of supplies; especially, Venezuelan gasoline to Colombia, weapons, minerals, stolen cars, and drug trafficking. They also commit all kinds of robberies, extortion, assassination, threats, kidnappings, and usury.

So, at this point I need to be careful about the comments I make: only to say “a picture is worth a thousand words!” It is quite easy to form an opinion in his case and come to a conclusion.
His dress code speaks volumes, his pose, displays a gangster mentality! Colombia is not a regular vacation venue for Dominicans nor West Indians in general!
So, let’s ask; what was he doing in that part of the world?

Your last sentence shows how ignorant you are about Colombia, and many many many Dominicans on a whole. Colombia is not just extremely beautiful with many more friendly people than Dominica, but it is being flooded by millions of tourists every year, especially AMERICAN TOURISTS. Have you heard about ‘nomadas digitales’? In English it’s called digital nomads, those people work online, and they live their countries to work in Colombia istead. Its cheap, fast internet, reliable internet, low rent, good food, cheap food, friendly people, etc,.
Just Google ‘digital nomads in Colombia’, you must get information about that. So your question what was he doing in that part of the world is preposterous and sheer ignorance. Colombia today is not the Colombia of Pablo Escobar who operated from Medellin. Hardly any signs of Escobar in Medellin today. Medellin is built up to the hilt with hardly any space for expansion. Every family’s home is turned into a business, because of tourism…

FET he is a Pennyford so no one wants to say anything that will offend them like it’s the old days. Don’t mind them, is so we be in Dca these days. See nothing say nothing while our young men are being killed and our so called government destroy the country. And we wonder why there are so many “dishwashers” in Dca today. I again beg our young men to take note and be more responsible. We need more and better fathers. “Dish washing” cannot produce children.

    Bogota, Medellin, Cali, Cartagena, Cucuta,
Santa Marta, Bucaramanga, etc, are among the most beautiful cities you’ll find anywhere in the world, but they can be dangerous too. Please don’t walk the streets with your cellphone in your hand, small or big chains, wrist watch, etc. You’ll become a target. You will lose them, any maybe your life as well. Your wallet should NOT be in your back pocket. Pick pocketers called “carteristas” will take it, and you’ll feel absolutely nothing, especially in Medellin.
Unsafe to walk alone especially if you are visiting any of those cities. Group walking is safer. Food is cheap, cheap, cheap.
Unfortunate to hear of the death of the brother. Hope he did not unknowingly make himself a target. I condole with your family sir. You don’t always die where you were born. RIP.

I have been to Colombia 4 times on language exchange, and 3 times to Venezuela. We are told PLEASE leave certain things at home. I dont know why or how the man was killed, “PERO NO DAS PAPAYA EN LA CALLE”.
You are an accomplished buffoon, and dont know zilch about what you are talking about. Your doggone pinhead and illiterate.Your comprehension of english is mind boggling. Shameless idiot.
By the way, amongst all the spanish speaking countries, the Colombians are the friendliest to visitors. If you want to see and feel what it means to be friendly go to Colombia.

ya bro it ain’t that serious anymore. wearing jewelry is probably not a good idea but people walk around with their phones and stuff no problem and you can walk around pretty safely as long as you’re not stupid or go into the wrong areas. Really not much different from some caribbean cities. Even in Roseau people have been robbed for their jewelry

Also the report says that he was shot in a rural area? Now unless he was out sightseeing it sounds like he got himself involved in some cartel/drug activity

I dont know how he was killed and for what reason. I have ZERO knowledge of that. I am just saying some things we we told not to do while in Colombia. Please keep certain things home. But Colombia is a really, really beautiful place, with very very nice people.

Why is anybody surprised? Are we blind or trying to play dumb, deaf and blind?

Why do you all believe a Dominica would make a “journey” to the rural area of Riohacha, La Guajira, Columbia? Do you believe he went to PRAY for his or deliverance? Thats one of the biggest problems with us Dominicans; We are too darn hypocrite! Sometimes we just have to tell it like it is and stop all the BS. If it was one of the street boys that got shot in Guada we would be saying something else. Hopefully his death will serve as a warning to others.

I respect you for being forthright as you are a realist. You, like MEME, call a space a spade. Look at his fingers in the photo – gang sign.

The problem with many Dominicans is that some role are bets reproach. They are infallible. That the very reason someone like the parochial, rotten, sacrilegious despot (Roosevelt) can remain in office for two decades and counting.

If Roosevelt were to tell simpletons like Pointless Point, Fake Putin, Pretentious Gary and Pathetic Lin Clown that can swallow the whole Pacific Ocean, then spit out all the to feed every Dominican, they will believe him. Gullible people!

Hopefully his death will serve as a warning to other wannabe “drug dealers and gang bangers”. Yes, I said it. No sugar coating. Your comment is spot on. I amplified it just a little bit more for we should be telling it like it is instead of pretending that the individual was such an outstanding citizen. This gentleman was not in rural Columbia seeking gainful employment. Anybody who thinks so is only deceiving themselves and just can’t come to grips that this individual chose a lifestyle that only ends in premature death or incarceration. It is always better to seek legal employment regardless of how meager the job may appear to be than risk being hunted down by law enforcement or your competitors.
Let the gentleman’s death be a reminder that there is a tremendous amount of risk associated with that type of lifestyle.

Man you are a fool, an idiot and a sot. Are you assuming that a Dominican can’t or cannot go to a colombian rural area? What is wrong with colombia?
The mans motive COULD be sinister, but your writing suggests non factual negativity about colombia.

Whatever the man was doing in Colombia i don’t know…but hope you are not using his death to paint a dirty image of Colombia in 2025. Off course there are very bad elements among the population, but all countries do anyway.
Colombia is one of the most flourishing spanish speaking countries in the world and has the friendliest people towards visitors, since the economy is rapidly transforming into services. I know Dominicans (most), hate to read and to inform themselves, and this is a very serious indictment on the people in 2025. Its a far cry to the type of population Dominica had in the 1970’s without any internet, cell phones or electricity. The people read, and knew factual information about almost anything.
