Dominicans commended for minimizing the toll of COVID-19 on the elderly and centenarians

As Dominica observes the “Month of the Elder” for the year 2022, the government is commending the nation for its “success in minimizing the toll COVID-19 has had on the elderly and centenarians.”

This year’s theme, “The Resilience and Contributions of Older Persons in a Changing World”, is in keeping with the United Nations thrust on Older Persons particularly women.

In a radio address to mark the occasion, Minster for Youth Development and Empowerment, Youth at Risk, Gender Affairs, Seniors’ Security and Dominicans with Disabilities, Dr. Adis King, highlighted what she described as the resilience of Dominica’s elderly citizens despite the many challenges.

“As we are about to turn the corner away from the threats and impacts of Covid 19, we must remain vigilant while sticking a feather in our cap as to the successes we’ve had as a nation in minimizing the toll this pandemic has had on our elderly. Again, this is a mark of the resilience of our elderly population. We must commend the respective authorities, agencies and teams that led in this endeavour,” King stated.

The Minister called for Dominica’s centenarians whom the Dominica Council On Ageing (DCOA) regards as “our gems,” to be specially recognized during this month’s observance and beyond for their resilience and the contributions that the have made through the challenges of the last decade.

She said reports showed that although Dominica’s centenarians did show resilience and fared well in the midst of the challenges, some were indirectly impacted by related causes.

King said the woes of Tropical Storm Erika exasperated by Hurricane Maria and compounded by the Covid-19 pandemic in less than the span of a decade, are what the elderly and the people of Dominica have had to endure.

“Today the number of centenarians has been reduced but with the pristine environment of the nature isle, these numbers will soon rise again,” she declared.

King further advised that persons must continue to wholeheartedly treasure their centenarians.

“The programs and protocols instituted by the Government of Dominica to assist our centenarians to enjoy their reign can only be worthwhile if supported by everyone in the respective communities. Let us join hands and hearts in these endeavors,” she urged.

According to King, the world is changing, and, in the process, Dominica is an inheritor of daunting challenges, challenges that are both naturally occurring and man-made.

The Minister asked the nation to join the DOCA and the older persons in Dominica to celebrate another month to showcase the value and worth of the elderly in nation building.

” Adis King, highlighted what she described as the resilience of Dominica’s elderly citizens despite the many challenges.”
Adis you need to shut up; if you call yourself doctor, you should stop playing politics, and try to practice medicine!
“Dominicans commended for minimizing the toll of COVID-19 on the elderly and centenarians.” So, who commended “Dominicans; not the WHO, nor any other medical organization on the planet; as we read the article we find that the commendation came from Government Roosevelt, cabal; how stupid are your comments.
No one in Dominica had any special treatment for the disease, you are powerless with nothing out of Dominica, from a medical point of view that was used to prevent COVID-19 genocide, all you all did was follow the AMA protocol.
Roosevelt had to beg for free vaccine, because you all could not afford to pay for it.
You don’t even know how many died in Dominica due to the virus!
    ” resilience of Dominica’s elderly?”
    You are pseudo…

Dominicans, do we have the balls to call out the government on this vaxx genocide they have/are commiting against us?

Or all you fear of uncle still more important than all you life?

These people are playing politics kissing up to Roosevelt in order keep benefiting from his handouts. Such comments comes from from them because of fear!
Notice she/he used the term ” resilience of Dominica’s elderly” they cannot resits that word, so Dominicans are also the first resilient people on the planet.

That so called doctor I term pseudo; and by the way; every first year medical student must read or learn the meaning of the word pseudo as it relates to medicine. I hope the so called doctor read this and examine themselves; and the garbage the wrote.

No one old or young are resilient to COVID-19 and any of its mutating variance, the reason all of Dominica are not dead is because the population; is small and not much socializing at the peak of the crisis. In America more than 1,047,563 died and are still dying.
But as everything else everything in Dominica must involved pseudo propaganda!
The idea is to lie, make people believe we are special!

People, when I criticise DNO it’s for legitimate reasons. Look at the first sentence of this post. Think about it. It’s profoundly misleading, and blatantly false.

The citizens who suffer most in Dominica are persons in the sunset days of their lives, our elderly.

These loved ones are mostly abandoned by family members like derelict vehicles on the side of the road or in empty lots. The government safety net system is either woefully inadequate, dysfunctional, or non-existent.

I would like an impartial, bona fide reporter to interview some of our elderly persons about their daily struggles just to exist. You would definitely get a tsunami of teary eyed revelations.

No stimulus packages, no livable pension, no proper medical service, unspeakable living conditions, and I could continue ad nauseam.

Families, civil society, and this ruinous administration, have to do much better.

How laughable. The government is Skerrit and Dominica is Skerrit. So when Skerrit commends Dominicans Roosevelt Skerrit is simply taking praise, glory and honor for minimizing that covid-19 foolishness of his.
But Skerrit I thank God that despite all of your carelessness to get the Chinese jab on us God protected us. Yes I give you credit for opening several doors to welcome covid but when your hypocrisy was exposed, like Caine that killed his brother Abel you sure did a good job hiding your nakedness.
I think of the first person that was found with covid . You all gave the impression that everyone that came on island would be screened. Luckily Matt came on the plane that day and told us no one was tested for Covid-19. Imagine the amount of elderly that could have gotten it. Then I think of another community from the East that was shot down because a family member arrived in Dominica with Covid 19 and they were not sent to quarantine because someone knew Skerrit number. Many more
