President of the Dominica Cancer Society (DCS) Yvonne Alexander is encouraging the general public to wear pink today in observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Day.
Breast cancer is one of the leading causes of death among women globally.
“The Dominica Cancer Society is calling on all our supporters, friends, members of the Dominica Cancer Society to dress in pink, Thursday, 17th of October helping us raise awareness about breast cancer,” she encouraged. “The day is referred to as pink day.”
Alexander also called on individuals to speak about breast cancer and consider getting screened.
“And quite apart from screening to do their breast-self examination,” she said.
She added, “So the call is for all members, friends, supporters of the Dominica Cancer Society to assist us in raising awareness about breast cancer by wearing pink.”
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month globally. This is an annual campaign to increase awareness of the disease.
Many people associate the colour pink with breast cancer awareness. While most people are aware of breast cancer, many forget to take the steps to have a plan to detect the disease in its early stages and encourage others to do the same.
