Dominica is one of 38 countries whose citizens are subject to a new, unprecedented Visa Bond requirement put forth by President Donald Trump’s administration, when seeking entry into the United States.
According to a U.S. State Department announcement, travelers holding a passport issued by Dominica, who are otherwise eligible for a B1/B2 visa, must post a financial bond if instructed to do so during their visa application process.
The report indicates that bond amounts vary depending on the individual case and are set at the time of the visa interview, with levels typically at USD $5,000, $10,000, or $15,000, a hefty sum for the average Dominican citizen.
In addition to posting the bond, applicants are required to submit a Department of Homeland Security Form I-352, also known as the Immigration Bond form, regardless of where the visa application is submitted or processed, says the State Department.
The U.S. government emphasized that all payments must be made through its official channels to ensure security and proper processing, only after explicit instructions from a consular office.
However, paying the bond does not automatically guarantee visa approval, say officials. The decision rests with the visa issuing authority, and fees paid without proper guidance or authorization will not be reimbursed.
Another restriction imposed on individuals other than payment of the sum is that entry and exit from the United States is limited to specific airports, namely Boston Logan International Airport, John F. Kennedy International Airport, and Washington Dulles International Airport.
The terms of the bond, as detailed on DHS Form I-352 and on Travel.State.Gov, include provisions for automatic cancellation and refund of the bond under certain conditions, such as timely departure from the U.S. or denial of entry at the port of entry.
Conversely, breaches of the bond—such as overstaying or failing to depart as authorized—are reported to USCIS for further investigation, which can lead to penalties or legal action.
The only other Caribbean territory on the list is Antigua and Barbuda.
Folks
Canada, The Netherlands are much more pleasant places to visit that the US. Direct flights are available from St. Marteen via KLM to the Netherlands and Westjet to Canada.
What about the socialist paradise cuba, and also people who have the family members studying the can have lunch, with them at any of the fine restaurants in downtown havanezuelaa
of better how about antigua, and the countries of the dark continent, their are over 50 countries there, ghana, nigeria, kenya , congo, and the socialist favorite south africa, even venezuela is a good choice. Or just do a staycavation, and visit, and shop and the wonderful site. The supremo/world boss said the shopping in roseau is better than st marteen ,canada new york or even london
Canada is where it is at for north american travel. America is clear they really don’t want us there.
We used to have visa free access to Canada but that door was closed because of our sale of passports. We never seem to learn.
Then Dominica NEED to pass laws making it mandatory to have a visa on entry into the Dominica for any country where Dominicans must have a visa to enter. That way we can track with more efficiency and decide the calibre of visitors we wish to have on our island.
And what benefit would that be to Dominica?
So my doctor is in Miami; I must go all the way to New York then head down to Miami or wherever port of entry required is. So this is how the government is negotiating. Ontop of that ridiculous fee they still controlling the travel process. Nah man keep your visa oui.
No, Senseless (pun embraced), Domincia did not “negotiate this”. The decision to allow entry into the US only through select ports was that of the US government. We had no part to play in this decision.
All the money will be going to Trumps bank account for safekeeping.
We LERRRVE OUR PM!
This is not exactly pariah status but it is close. The blame goes straight to our governments, all of them from Mamo up to this one. Every one of them operated some version this awful, treacherous passport selling scheme. None of them developed the economy in a reasonable, robust manner that could stand on it’s own. They were all addicted to the easy money drug. Now the chickens are coming home to roost. Call him a bully but we placed ourselves in this predicament, or rather our governments did. We put ourselves in a shituation where other countries would get fed up of our sellout and take measures to protect themselves. The whole world knows that criminals and other undesirables are roaming the world with Dominican passports.
Not exactly pariah but close. First was Canada, then the UK, now the US. Europe next. Pretty soon Dominicans will not be able to travel anywhere, unless we have a serious soul searching.
We used to say it and now it upon us,but… no more America for us. Donald Trump (thou I have my issues with him) is not just doing that for fun. They making it harder for people with Dominican an Antiguan passports to travel to the states because all cat and rat have our passport.
Want to study, get healthcare, see your aunty? no more of that for you. And I know some people gonna be like “Oh it have other places to study”, True, but do you think it’s fair that we Dominicans should be shut out from the biggest cloest country to us and we have done nothing wrong? A child’s…your child’s dream of going to some big fancy school should be close cause people want to sell passports to build hotels and we not even seeing the money? But guess who children have American passports and that doesnt matter to them.
At some point it have to stop being a “Red vs blue” thing and be a “Right and wrong”
Also according to the US government
As a condition of the bond, all visa holders who have posted a visa bond must enter and exit the United States through the designated ports of entry listed below. Not doing this might lead to a denied entry or a departure that is not properly recorded:
Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) (August 20, 2025)
John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) (August 20, 2025)
Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) (August 20, 2025)
Currently there are no direct flight to any of these airports in the USA from Dominica. United Airlines has a direct flight, but it does not land in JFK, it lands in EWR, also the AA flight is Miami only direct flight. So this means you will have to go to another Caribbean country to get a direct flight xD
