Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has encouraged Dominicans to take advantage of the opportunities that come with the International Airport on the island.
He made the statement during a site visit held at the International Airport Site in Wesley last week.
“The government’s responsibility is to build the airport. It is left for the citizens of Dominica to take advantage of the opportunities, to position themselves,” he encouraged. “What are the opportunities and benefits of the airport? And so we have to position ourselves to take advantage of those opportunities.”
According to him, there are several foreign nationals who have shown interest in acquiring land in the country.
“Somebody offered to buy over 100 acres of land in this area,” Skerrit revealed. “We’ve had to hold it back, because there are some lands I believe should stay with the people of Dominica.”
He continued, “But people are scouting, people are looking to buy, all foreign nationals.”

Skerrit added, “Can we not put ourselves together in groups, in companies, and make an approach to the government to start putting the Airbnbs and the guest houses there for stayover people, for airport staff, and for airline staff. And I believe there are a number of things we believe we can position ourselves moving forward.”
Furthermore, the PM says that the International Airport will touch the length and breadth of Dominica.
“Whether you are from Scottshead where we rely on fishing or in the valley where we rely on tourism or in Capuchin where we rely on a mixture of tourism and agriculture or in the Kalinago Territory where we need people to come in to buy our craft, the farmers in Marigot who are planting yams and dasheen who are rearing chickens and goats and so forth, every single sector of the economy is going to benefit directly from this airport.”
Presently, there are over 100 Dominicans employed at the International Airport Development Project.

when you exclude the missing pieces of Dominica this is what happens. The masterplan must put Dominicans in the diaspora back in the thinking .If you do not welcome Dominicans trained up and highly skilled back to Dominica you are missing a trick .Already we have seen it pay dividend ,offer the incentives for all to reap the rewards .Its a win win win for all concerned . Let the investment of the previous generations come home and play there part in national development
I think that this a is a public relations stunt so you can go back and say that you invited the entire nation to bring their skills forward. However, we expect that you already have everything sorted out and de end result will be nothing new but jobs for your labor boys and girls.
This is a statement for de outside to see to form a positive opinion of you and your efforts to bring all heads on board regardless of political afilliation.
The truth is non dlp supporters stand little to no chance.
One of these days you need to point out where this is not the case.
Show us qualified individuals who are not necessarily dlp supporters in positions that they represent and are highly qualified.
Of course, you will say that you have similarly qualified individuals in your camp.
If you don’t change that attitude how do you expect us to change ours.
My brother de outside world watching and taking note. They do not vote here but their voice and actions will force your hand.
No need for a stunt, silly Billy! Dominicans have already been repeatedly urged to make the most of the current and eventual opportunities. In fact, I distinctly recall seeing ads for vacancies at the airport site. If you do not know, do a simple Google search and stop. spreading fake news.
The mind set needs to change otherwise they will never meet the challenge.
This statement that many people are ready to buy land in the area among them one person is ready to buy one hundred acre but he held them back because Dominicans need land sounds like the statement that six companies were waiting to replace ross in the medical school .Now people are still waiting and the one making those false statements should name name those waiting to buy as I have 31 acres ready tell them come to Dominica and ask for Power House
Garsan who will buy dat gwo mosso kayeh that you have dere? Choops!
Many will, PM. However, unfortunately, Dominicans generally are laid-back people, content to let another “man” seize opportunities and then react to his success with criticisms. So, great work on your part, but I hope that you are realistic.
I see you don’t think that he is realistic eh
That says everything
Roosevelt is the living embodiment of the prefix – UN. The guy is UNfeeling, UNlearned, UNdisciplined, UNacademic, UNcouth, UNgodly, UNintelligent, UNreasonable, UNjust,
Can we live without an international airport? Sure, we can!
Can we live healthful and fulfilling lives from polluted water sources, contaminated soil, wanton destruction of the greenery? No!
Only an environmental terrorist will inflict such savagery to his country.
Despite the widespread cries from ALL sectors of the population, this eco-saboteur (Roosevelt) is Hell-bent on executing his genocidal environmental agenda.
There is no better time to send Roosevelt this unequivocal message: The POWER of the people is stronger than the people in power.
A description of embodiment prefixes, ill, im, Ir, and dis you are living, illogical, irrational, immature, dishonorable and dishonest. Do you know how silly you are and what fanaticism has done to you. When someone asks a question and then gives the answer that is dishonest, example, quoting you, Can we live without an international airport? Sure, we can!. Wow, and that goes to all the questions you have asked and answered. Environmental terrorist, lol, why say such nonsense.
This is the unequivocal message you need to understand, a Government elected by the people and working for the people
will not somehow be removed from power by your silly rants and ludicrous misrepresentation of facts on this forum, so long.
You guys really need to calm down. I go around Dominica and see trash strewn all over the place, in rivers, ravines etc. And before people say it’s the fault of the government because of garbage colleciton issues – I’ve seen trash in places far from residential areas, at tourist sites beaches etc. People just dump garbage and litter anywhere. The environmental terrorists are the people who take no thought or care for their surroundings to keep it clean.
A massive development project is going on that requires some destruction of the environment. It’s inevitable, but what’s the alternative? No international airport? Wherever the airport is built it’s going to cause the same destruction.
Have you ever driven along the west coast highway? If you have then surely you’ve noticed all the areas where the cliffs were carved in order to build roads. By the same logic being applied to the airport project we should not have these roads today
The PM seems to be under the impression we have money.
Exactly! Too many resident Dominicans cannot even afford three meals per day. Most live from hand to mouth. Roosevelt’s statements clearly show he is totally out of touch with the living realities and conditions of the average Dominican.
This man has been living such a champange lifestyle in his palatial castle that he can no longer relate to the daily struggles and hardship of the average Dominican family to put food on the table.
