Dominicans told that their vote in the next election will determine next 40 years of Dominica’s development

Denise Charles

The decision Dominicans make at the upcoming general election will determine the next forty years of the country’s development. That’s the view of Dominica Labor Party candidate for the Soufriere constituency, Denise Charles.

Charles believes that as time progresses, opportunities with global friends and investment will be lost and not be regained. So, according to her, Dominicans should not “gamble their future”.

The DLP candidate was at the time addressing a Diaspora forum and she said the time for decisive action is now.

“We shall not gamble with our future, we are focused on building the new Soufriere and I’m encouraging my people to make an investment.  The future of our country so critical, as I have said this is not Showtime, HBO, or lifetime where if you don’t like the movie you can just flip the channel,” she warned.

Meantime Charles said Dominica is no longer looked upon as one of the least developed islands in the region, as the country has now rapidly increased its rankings.

“It took Dominica forty years after independence in 1979 to open the first 5-star resort and witness the construction of three major international brands- it took Roosevelt Skerrit led administration under five years to make that dream a reality,” Charles said.

And according to her, it took Dominica 28 years after independence to have an international cricket stadium and it took Roosevelt Skerrit led administration three years to make that a reality.

She said the nation and quality of life of persons is refining because of Skerrit’s strategic alliances.

Looking ahead, Charles said the government will commence the construction of two jetties in 2020, re-introduce yachting and create a relaxing experience for visitors from Pointe Michel to Scotts Head.

“We (government) have built over 34 homes for residents and have 150 more to construct as there are still families who require new homes and assistance for home repairs,” she said.

There is nothing such as international friends! Countries create alliances, treaties and the likes to fill certain values. Skerrit as the head of the economy for 15 years, all we have witnessed is the decline of the economy with a shift from agriculture to tourism as the main stay, yet labour administration can not attract tourist. Cruise ship season is open, how many ships have visited? After 15 years the built environment has not been prepared to host tourist, so how are we to making a living in a seasonal economy? Yet skerrit lawyer has become the developer of 2 CBI hotels, has me wonder whose interest does he truly represent as a developer? You are right miss Charles the future is really dependent on people removing this incompetent administration of skerrit and company, including you, such mediocrity!

Dear madam, you should take some time to read what you wrote, if you did you would be a shame yourself and your party, seeing that you and your party has been there for nineteen of those forty years, all you have done is take the country sixty years backwards. Time to get out and give those that are willing and able to move the country forward a chance to do so, God bless it will be another party and not your party for the next forty years.

Denise, you’re doing a great job for the constituents who elected you.
Your boss however needs to come clean and let us all know just how much we owe and to whom, something he always smiles about and changes topic.
A loan for development is just that – a loan, what are the terms and when do we start repayment?
China is taking control of many bigger countries than us for inability to make payment on their loans, it’s well documented.
Sadly many here hear X million dollars and are too busy jumping and shouting to hear the rest of the statement.
A voter card would be a wonderful thing wouldn’t it?

If you remove the wig from your head, you might look more human!

Voting Roosevelt Skerrit and people like you to rule over Dominica, it is not only forty years of suffering and backwardness we will see.

Dominica will become worst than some places we see in India today.

Human life’s are not destroyed only by war, and such conflicts; victimization such as perpetrated by Roosevelt Skerrit kills!

More than half of Dominica’s population live out of Dominica.

After the mass immigration of West Indians to England in the 50’s and 60’s to the time Dominica became independent, things were looking up; by the time Roosevelt Skerrit got his appendages on Dominica everything in the country spiral down even to the day all the foreign companies operating in Dominica left because they see no future in Dominica as long as Roosevelt is prime minister!

D/A news on line you need to invest in a better scale. I have never met a more ungrateful people. Some of you all talking have houses giving to you by the Gov’t and the monies you all collected from Gov’t (cool out) did you all great. The monies collected from the gardens some of you all dont even have farming land. And yet you criticize others who’s trying to make a difference. But God is looking on and he sees everything. He has no place or tolerance for the proud and the ungrateful. May God help us all. Always remember God is the one who allows Gov’t to be built and to be brought down. ”Respect and pray for those in authority over you that your days may be long and your land may be prosperous”. Think about it my people. God bless you.

My family members got lots of money by pretending to be Laybar but rest assured NOT one will vote red    . And by the way to be honest I got my fair share (($35000.00) to fix my house that they knew was not damaged per say   . Ask JI and he will tell you   . That is OUR money from the sale of OUR soverignity (passport) so WE earned it.

if someone gives you a $100 from $1000 that was given to them for your benefit you should be grateful to them ? why ?
because the $100 they gave you , you didn’t have in the first place, and as you really need it , then you are indebted to them for life ?
even after you know the $900 they kept is for their own personal benefit, directly or indirectly ?

You should have named yourself the opposite of Smart; because of people like you with the ‘gee-me-gee me’ mentality that cause Dominica to be so poor and backward.

If you were smart, you should be screaming at the top of your vice; were are the jobs; how come there is no employment in the country?

When people  go to work they exchange labor for money; they have their spending power, happy and proud  to have a place of employment.

Those who sit at home depending on Roosevelt for a handout; they  live like parasites, whom when they do get a free gift  from Roosevelt it’s like drinking the blood of someone in order to survive.

Yes, he give houses and money away, nevertheless; house is not a home, especially when it is given to you with the intention of bribing you, a gift from Roosevelt saying to you I own you, you shall serve me as my slave to write the garbage you wrote here.

      Recipients never own Roosevelt houses!

All you would have to do is to send a christmas gift for your relatives, that is what we all do, except an adverse situation ,because they would be working. what I don’t understand why is it that Dominica is doing so well and you people refuse to come to live in this wonderful country. we have everything London has according to you all, there must be a reason you all dont want to come home. when some of the diaspora come back home to retire, they cannot stay for long they crying about medical, things expensive so they have to go back to London. Dominica was not willed to Skerritt and the labor party. In the Other hand it is the actions of Skerritt which will see the end of relations and assists c.f. from foreign countries. His reckless sale of Dominica’s passport to notorious criminals is quickly leading to internatiinal isolation. Canada has imposed visa restrictions because of the wanton sale of our passports. Dominicans now need a visa to go to Guadeloupe. That has been brought about by the actions of labor party lead by Skerritt. So when you speak, think first. Your government flag ship project is the hotel, good job, but yet it cannot support a community like how Ross provided money for food and housing. Dominica is grossly underdeveloped. It is the only independent country in the OECS without an international airport, modern port facilities, first rate athletic and sporting stadiums. That’s not all. Dominica has the lowest minimum wage, highest number of unemployed and unemployable people, a network of pothole diseased roads and politicians as corrupt of their counterparts in Romania, the poorest country in Eastern Europe. One Romanian politician was convicted and jailed for bribery. He fan in a national election from jail and won. This is the direction we are going in Dominica. In Dominica too many people are stuck in poverty like flies stuck in molasses. Renaissance under Skerrit’s stewardship? Nothing can be further from the truth

Stale Honey, you really penned this rubbish? Where the hell have you been?
“The UWP hardliners, do you think Lennox Linton has the capability, mannerism and working ethic to be leader? Yes!The man is a smooth talker who knows absolutely nothing on commerce, economic, science, finance or law.”
From this failed script, you have exposed idiotic self. From what you wrote and what I and others know of Hon. Lennox Linton, your corrupted failed immature Skerrit just cannot come into the academic and professional background of Hon Linton who has worked at key places both in Dominica and in two Caribbean islands. What has Skerrit earned in manner of intelligence, professionalism to match that of Hon Linton, who is exceptionally dignified and trusted. Our states finances will be safe. No Red Clinic Bobol, but the creation of jobs and discipline. Where is Skerrit`s position on these matters? Well, it is the abys of obvious corruption, incompetence and lacks knowledge of development. UWP Team…

honey the present regime has all the requirements ,capability, working ethic, and all the rest you mention to move a country, but yet still people who work in the tourism industry work for only six months while other Caribbean countries are doing so well in that same industry. smh

I definitely won’t gamble my future by voting for the DLP…After 20 years in office watch their report card:
    Agriculture. F
    Manufacturing. F
    Tourism. F

The entire DLP team represent a disgrace to Dominica, and all deserves to be kicked out.. They have impoverished the people and they take pride in seeing them as beggars..
Shame on you all DLP MISLEADERS.

Denise, for twenty long years your inept, lack of vision, cannot do,in fact generally incompetent bunch of thugs have ravaged this country, more than all hurricanes put together, and you are talking about gambling chances.
Look at your constituency of Soufriere, a ” sheet hole” haven.
Girl stop talking nonsense and pack up.

Sure, there are things that need improving (like any other constituency) but Soufriere is nothing as you described it. Mind your fingers!!

    Denise, are you done?
My turn: We want to know where or money is 1.2 Billion, if your PM doesn’t have it, what did he spend it on? We also want a cleased voter’s list and voter IDs before the next general elections. Is that too much to ask?

These DLP candidates are scary. Their boldfaced lies and fantastic promises only fools can fall for them. We want fresh faces, withfresh ideas to freshen up the people’s lives. The Skerrit led government is an Albatross around the necks of Dominicans.

A little help in history maybe? When did Dominica become independent?

  32. Waiting For Airport
    November 5, 2019

History tends to repeat itself when people don’t pay attention to it. Look at the last 20 years and based on that we can predict the next 40. We still wont have an airport, the Chinese will own everything of value in Dominica, just like marijuana – the next big profitable asset will be ignored while our leaders host discussions about it but never take action, because of taxes most local businesses wont survive… etc

If Mr. Skerrit were a CEO of any private organization or business, he would have been fired long time. He would not have lasted a year. The backward condition of the country is embarrassingly awful. When Dominicans travel to the other neighboring islands, they have to hang their heads in shame as to what obtains in Dominica. The economy is in total shambles. Not even Skerrit, his spineless Cabinet colleagues nor his most diehard supporters bother to mention the fluttering economy. Every independent OECS country has something to boast about except Dominica. The country has occupied the last place position in the OECS for twenty years. These countries have something to boast about:
    *Grenada – International Athletic Track
Antigua & Barbuda – Five Islands
St. Vincent & the Grenadines – International Airport
St. Kitts & Nevis – Over One Million Tourists for two straight years
    Dominica –
Nothing of consequence for Dominica. Not another term for them. UNDESERVING!!!!

You talking absolute nonsense! I live in a foreign country for 22 years which has a much higher GDP than Dominica and is more economically stable too. When I compare what the D/A government has done in 20 years for our country with what this government has done here in terms of infarstructeral developement, Dominica is infront by 200 miles at least. So is not me all you can fool.

Madame Charles, instead of keeping to sing for your supper and broadcasting your shameless Skerrit propaganda, why don’t you tell us what happened at PetroCaribe. Why did Venezuela openly tell the entire world that they had forgiven the state of Dominica a loan of US$100 million but Austrie insists that Dominica doesn’t owe Venezuela any money?? In any case what happened to that vast amount of money? Tell us!! Was is perhaps used to build new houses for your Masters ‘housing revolution’? Was it perhaps used to build new bridges and roads or was it perhaps used to build a new airport or new hospitals in Marigot and Portsmouth? Isn’t it the truth that most of this money is still sitting in secret bank accounts in Panama and Switzerland…? When are you going to ask your master to account for the missing CBI money???

They fall for it every single time. I am a dominican who lives abroad, left dominica in 2000. Dominica is worst off now than under the freedom party. This is madness. How can you leave a place and come back and its the same or worse than you left?
