Dominica’s borders could open in July – PM Skerrit

PM Skerrit on DBS Radio. File photo

With the number of active COVID-19 cases in Dominica back to zero,  PM Skerrit said his government is looking at the possibility of opening the country’s borders in July.

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit made the disclosure on his ‘One on One’ Anou Palay on Sunday night.

“The two positive cases which we got from the cruise ships, these two people have recovered successfully and they have been discharged, so we no longer have any active cases on Dominica,” the prime minister said.

He pointed out that as seen in other countries, once the borders are opened, one would expect to have imported cases.

“The Ministry of Health is advising us on what types of protocols we need to put in place for people coming into Dominica, for Dominican citizens and residents and for visitors,” he noted.

“I am not sure what date in July yet, but certainly, in July God’s willing, we will open up the borders,” the Prime Minister revealed. “So certainly, by July, we will have commercial flights coming in and leaving Dominica.”

Mr. Dog, you want to learn something about Borders?
The United States shares a border with Mexico, it’s 1,954 miles long, making it’s the longest boarder in North America, the border spans from the Gulf of Mexico in the East to the pacific Ocean in the West; a section of the border follows the Rio Grand River; and boarders  San Ysidro, San Diego California,150 miles from Los Angeles, which is the worlds busiest border crossing with approximately 14 Million people crossing that border each year.
The united States States also shares international land borders with two nations: Canada, and the United States shares border to the North of the Contiguous United States, and to the East of Alaska.
The United States and Russia also share a maritime border at the Bering Sea that is known as the Russia-United States Maritime Boundary. The need for the establishment of the maritime boundary arose after Alaska was sold to the United States by the Russian Empire.

Man Dog, I’m back not finished yet.

“every country, and islands has borders otherwise any none citizens could just walk in no questions asked, boats and planes comes in no questions asked think about it or ask GOOGLE having a Walmart “(Man bite Dog).

Man Dog such as in the quote above could only come an uneducated mind, someone with no actual scholastic education.

Let me remind you that I Francisco Etienne-Telemaque, writing under my true name:

I am both college and University educated okay, I did did not go to secondary, in Dominica, but; got that on the  island of Antigua, in the late 1960 into the 70’s in the long defunct “Hill Secondary School.”

My college education began in Harlow Essex England, and was completed in the United States of America.

I do not have to goggle anything, I leave that to people like you!

I do not talk fart; it is one thing to be political once in a while okay.

      I can’t tolerate nonsensical garbage!

Even the first world countries have are fearful of becoming overwhelmed – maximum capacity in the hospitals.

China has shut down a few cities again after reopening. There is a spike in cases again in certain states in the US. For the most part the economic implications are the reasons for reopening quickly. Money.

People do not seem to be taking this seriously or have taken this seriously. How the situation is handled people are critical if it was worse they would have been more critical.

We should all be happy that the situation played out – political affiliation should have nothing to do with anything. Si Y bon di y bon.

And since I am sure you never heard of Thomas Bailey Aldrich; and since I do not wish to leave your mind as shallow as you are here’s a brief!”Thomas Bailey Aldrich: November 11, 1836 – March 19, 1907) was an American writer, poet, critic, and editor.

Stop presenting yourself as an idiot! Write intelligently, as someone who finished elementary school.

You see when people depends on Google for their education there will always be confusion:

So, my question to you is this; is England an island?

If you say no then you would be completely wrong because it is surrounded by water; unless it is connected by a mass of land  the information you get from Google is wrong!

“England has land borders with Scotland and Wales. The rest of England is bordered by a collection of seas. They are namely the Irish Sea, Celtic Sea, North Sea and the English Channel.

England has a land area of 50, 346 square miles.

That is the island has an area of 50,346 square miles.Dominica is approximately 289.9-305 square miles.

Note Man Dog, the land area of Wales and Scotland not included!

“I am not sure what date in July yet, but certainly, in July God’s willing, we will open up the borders,” the Prime Minister revealed. “So certainly, by July, we will have commercial flights coming in and leaving Dominica.”
So why are our boarders still closed? What covid-19 did in Dominica that was worse than Antigua, Grenada and St. Lucia? So why couldn’t we open with them on June 1? Skerrit cannot convince me is because he is concerned about covid-19 because we were the last border in the Caribbean to be closed in March, when covid-19 was doing havoc in China, the US, Uk and other parts of the world. So why is our airport still closed? Here is why I feel: 1. LIAT not flying till July and as a result, Skerrit doest want to open the airport to expose him. The other Islands have other options outside of LIAT 2. Skerrit wants quarantine to continue because he benefits. The quarantine center is AvisVille. Who has interests in AvisVille again? 3. FAA downgraded our airport for safety

I too, listened to the PM on the first of his initiated programme “One on One”.
Let me state that I am in agreement with the opening of our boarders. We have to learn to live with the virus and continue the health protocols.
Notwithstanding, I had some serious concerns with other things he stated on that programme.
1.His use of the expression, ” bull sh….”. I don’t think that was fitting for him to use the term being the PM. There are many more words in the English language at his disposal.
2.The government acts too slow; he works faster than the government. Does Dominica have TWO? His government and the government’s government??
    3. On the international airport: he could not/has not named the “team” that was impeded from being in Dominica due to Covid-19. Why can’t he be specific?
    4. I tried calling to ask him about the 1.2 billion dollars he promised to account for but the response was that they would take my # and call me back. Just want to tell him today is day…

“Anou palsy” is the wrong name for Skerrit’s new program. He should call it April one, which is ‘all fool day’ since all he does is fool the people of Dominica.
So Skerrit why you have the airport closed? What are you hiding? Antigua, St. Lucia and Grenada are all opened, though they all had more covid-19 cases than us and Antigua had 3 deaths? Don’t tell me is because you don’t want covid-19 to come in because you said you will open it sometime in July and since boarders are open covid-19 will come. So what’s the delay especially at a time when bus, taxi drivers and others are depending on tourism and have not worked since March? Could the delay be another political strategy to keep the people poor so you could use them as your political football? Or could it be that by keeping the boarders closed you can continue to make money through quarantine, since the quarantine place is AvisVille and you still have not told us what’s your interest in AvisVille? You can’t fool me…

More hogwash wishful thinking; Dominica do not border with any country; or island on earth, so how can Roosevelt open a border?
Border is “the part of an area that forms its outer boundary; the line that separates one area, state, or country from another.
What Dominica has is:  A maritime boundary; which is a conceptual division of the Earth’s water surface areas using physiographic or geopolitical criteria.
As such, it usually bounds areas of exclusive national rights over mineral and biological resources, encompassing maritime features, limits and zones.
Generally, a maritime boundary is delineated at a particular distance from a jurisdiction’s coastline.
Although in some countries the term maritime boundary represents borders of a maritime nation  that are recognized by the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, maritime borders usually serve to identify the edge of international waters.  Colombia and Venezuela share the longest land boundary.
      Brazil…

No name Carib queen; if you are talking to me; give me your definition of the term border!

If you can define it in any other way shape or form; in any and all languages; including Latin from which all languages derive.

Then and only then I will give you an audience.

Meanwhile, the fact that people want to come home, has nothing to do with crap you all are talking about border, when in fact Dominica borders no island in the Caribbean, nor any country on the planet.

        Say I taught you that.

It would be appropriate to say the Sea Ports, and Airport will, or might open at some given date.

If you and Roosevelt and other Dominicans believe Dominica have a border start walking towards it; walk as far as you can to the ocean; keep going, see what happen nuh, neeh!

        Hahahahahahahahahahahahahah!

Sir everybody knows the meaning of ” borders” and no one cares about whether if it refers to islands ( CARICOM uses the term borders as well) or countries that are separated by a land base border. We do not care about how the PM use the term. We care on whether our nationals can come home or not and for you to just point out this irrelevant issue of the term just makes you look like you looking for an irrelevant issue to address because you have an issue with the PM. Why not make a meaningful contribution on the way forward instead of talking about how the term “border” was used OMG. What is your suggestion on protocols for incoming nationals, should we open…is it to early….you more concern that he used the word border instead of sea and air ports. We do not care if he use the term border or not we all know what he means. Make a meaningful contribution or say nothing at all Sir!!!

How stupid a comment that Dominica borders with CARICOM!

That does not make any sense no matter how you term it; it is what it is, based on the definition of the word, it can’t be any other way.

My late father taught me never ague with a fool or foolish people, because such people will always win the argument, or debate!

He taught me the reason such people always prevails in the debate, is because they can only understand what develops in their mind only.

      Countries Border Venezuela are:
Colombia and Venezuela share the longest land boundary.

Brazil shares a long land border with Venezuela; as well as Venezuela’s easternmost neighboring country is Guyana which also share a border with Venezuela.

The only other two places in our region with borders; are Dutch and French St. Marten (St Martin).

      Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

However, as usual in order to compare Dominica to the United States; Canada, and the European nations, and countries on the African continent which shares borders; Mr. Corrupted Ali Baba introduces his delusions to ignorant Dominicans stating we have borders too!

Not even England and the British isles have borders since they are surrounded by water; even though England is connected to France by an under water rail tunnel cannot be considered in my opinion having a border with France.

DEFINITION: Border (noun)a line separating two political or geographical areas, especially countries.
in this case the border is the coast, with an “coastal waters” buffer before international waters are met.
