Dominica’s Cadence-lpso Queen Ophelia unveils reggae anthem “Burkina Rise” honouring Burkina Faso’s Traore

Powerful Tribute to Courageous Leadership; Official Teaser Video Released!

Ophelia, Dominica’s iconic songstress renowned as a cornerstone of Cadence-lypso, is set to release a potent new Reggae  single, “Burkinabe Rise”. The track is a stirring musical tribute celebrating the bold and courageous stance of Burkina Faso’s young President, Ibrahim Traoré. Slated for release later this month, the song marks a powerful return to one of Ophelia’s foundational genres.

“Burkinabe Rise” channels the spirit of resistance and self-determination. Though Ophelia is globally celebrated for defining Dominica’s Cadence-lypso sound, Reggae has been an integral part of her repertoire since her very first recordings. This new single sees her masterfully blend soulful vocals with driving Reggae rhythms, crafting lyrics that resonate with themes of sovereignty, anti-colonial defiance, and the unwavering resilience of the African people, embodied by President Traoré’s leadership.

“President Traoré’s courage in the face of immense pressure to uphold Burkina Faso’s sovereignty and dignity is profoundly inspiring,” stated Ophelia. “It echoes the spirit of resistance and self-belief we know deeply in the Caribbean and across Africa. ‘Burkinabe Rise’ is my Reggae salute to that unyielding spirit – a call for unity, strength, and the right of all nations to determine their own destiny.”

The released teaser video features evocative imagery hinting at the song’s powerful narrative, interweaving cultural symbols with a message of Pan-African solidarity and determination. The full video promises to be a significant visual companion to this potent anthem.

Why This Resonates from Dominica:

Dominica, with its own proud history of cultural resilience and the global impact of its indigenous Cadence-lypso, shares a profound kinship with Africa’s struggles and triumphs. Ophelia’s choice to HONOUR an African leader championing self-determination through the universal language of Reggae speaks directly to shared Caribbean and African values of independence, courage, and the enduring quest for justice and respect.

Thanks for your insightful comment. However, as you already know most choices in life are not between bad and good, but between bad and worse. Which would you choose?

@kubulol, We See, you prefer we stay with the enslavers / exploirers that we know. You can keep those kinds of “friends of Africa” that only steal from her.
How can you justify France, your type of friends stealing $500 billion from 14 West African countries that they impoverished, force them to deposit 85%, (now 65% after pressure  ) of their reserves in the bank of France, and if they need any (duh) they must apply and get 15% only if they qualify -and you say they are “friends”?
We are taking it back from the beasts you support.
