Dominica’s Creole & Culture Ambassador Leroy “Wadix” Charles honored at Haitian Music Awards (with video)

Ambassador Leroy “Wadix” Charles, Dominica’s Creole & Culture Ambassador, was honored at the prestigious Haitian Music Awards on January 10, 2026, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the promotion and advancement of Haitian music and culture across the Caribbean and internationally.

The award highlights Ambassador Charles’ longstanding commitment to cultural diplomacy and his efforts to strengthen ties between Haiti, Dominica, and the wider Creole world through music, media, and cultural exchange. His initiatives have amplified Haitian artists, fostered regional collaboration, and reinforced the shared Creole heritage that unites Caribbean nations.

In his acceptance remarks, Ambassador Charles expressed gratitude to the Haitian music community, noting that music remains one of the Caribbean’s most powerful tools for unity, storytelling, and cultural preservation. He reaffirmed his dedication to promoting Creole culture as a dynamic force on the global stage and to building stronger regional partnerships.

This recognition marks a significant moment for the Commonwealth of Dominica, underscoring the island’s growing influence in cultural leadership across the region. It also emphasizes the importance of cross-border collaboration in sustaining Caribbean music and identity.

Leroy “Wadix” Charles, also known as Prince Wadix, has been a central figure in the preservation and promotion of Creole music and culture for more than four decades. His early involvement began with the Young Cultural Dramatists and later as co-founder of the WadiCole Sound System, where he championed Cadence and other Creole musical forms.

Through his extensive media work, including hosting the long-running radio program Hit Parade Creole on DBS Radio, Charles has promoted Creole heritage and preserved thousands of recordings of Cadence and Creole music. He also leads Creole Heartbeat, a cultural organization dedicated to advancing Creole language, music, and identity across Dominica and the wider Francophone and Creole-speaking communities.

Charles is a founding member of the World Creole Music Festival (WCMF) and has played a key role in its band selection committee. He has consistently advocated for national cultural events such as Carnival, DOMFESTA, and community heritage observances.

Appointed Cultural Ambassador by the Government of Dominica, Charles has contributed to national cultural policy, particularly regarding the Creole language, and has guided the organization of major cultural events. His achievements have earned him Dominica’s Golden Drum Award and the Meritorious Service Award. Internationally, he has been recognized with nominations such as the Kompa Recognition Award in 2026, honoring his role in strengthening cultural connections between Dominica and Haiti.

Beyond his musical endeavors, Charles remains a strong advocate for cultural preservation, focusing on Creole language policies, educational initiatives, and regional unity among Creole-speaking communities. His work spans media engagement, festival organization, archival preservation, and cultural diplomacy.

Ambassador Leroy “Wadix” Charles continues to serve as a passionate advocate for Creole culture, championing music as a bridge between nations and a shared Caribbean heartbeat.

Labour. Power check ANICHI website and see how it is marketed. the ignorance of the people. You all are celebrating nothing.

Nothing to congratulate him about. While he is getting an award from people who recognize the creole language the Ambasssdorship he accepted is one that promotes it as broken fench abroad while receiving money.

that’s all for promoting creole when Haitians are promoting it inthe US. Haitian creole has taken its place among government websites brochures. While ANICHI has it as broken French Seychelles has it their official language.
