Dominica’s foreign affairs minister: Medical program to see changes with Cuban gov’t’s cooperation

Dr. Vince Henderson- addressing Parliament on Monday

Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr. Vince Henderson has announced that the government plans to make changes to the Cuban medical workers program.

He announced this during a parliamentary session this week.

“We recognize that we have to make some changes to the program, the medical workers program, and we’re grateful that even the government of Cuba has gracefully agreed to work with us as we seek to meet new requirements for the Cuban health workers,” he said. “I will not say more about that.  I will just leave it as that, as they say, word to the wise is sufficient. So those who know, know.”

Dr. Henderson continued, “But we are making changes to that program, and it will be revealed at the appropriate time.  But we are working with all our partners  to ensure the best outcome for Dominicans because we must ensure that we always have health care services for our Dominican people.”

“I want to take the opportunity to thank the Republic of Cuba for over 30 years of support to the government and people of the Commonwealth of Dominica for the provision of medical workers,” he stated. “We know, and it’s no secret, that this relationship has been created out of solidarity. And that is to say, Cuba provides support to countries throughout the world. And Dominica happened to occupy a very special place in the Republic of Cuba.”

Dr. Henderson revealed that to date, there are more than 65 Cuban medical professionals providing support to Dominica through the Cuban medical workers program.

“So in addition to Cuba providing training for Dominicans, and to date, I think the number is like 150 Dominicans have graduated from medical schools in Cuba, and we are also being provided with support, and we have to thank them,” he emphasized. “We have to remember that it was Cuba that allowed us to open our first  Intensive Care Unit. And that Intensive Care Unit and diagnostic center in Portsmouth, as well, we were able to get the specialists, both nurses and doctors, who were required to operate those services.”

Dr. Henderson reiterated that the Government of Dominica will always be grateful to the Republic of Cuba.

“They have been true friends, and through thick and thin, even when they have their own internal challenges in terms of resources,  they never hesitated to provide us with support,” he noted.

What an absolutely idiotic statement. If they have details to reveal then reveal them, if not why even say something like that? Is this guy dumb? That just makes it seem even more suspicious and lends credence to the complaints that the U.S. has about the program.

My question is if we are training all these nurses and sent all these doctors to study in Cuba why do we still need 65 medical personnel from Cuba after 30 years? do we have a learning problem? a personnel retainage problem? an economic problem? because your utterance above does not make any sense and tells me we have not built capacity and capabilities in our people. After our folks train and practiced why are they not training the others. Cuba certainly is not that better equipped than we are because if tht is the case the whole China friendship state of the art hospital and your 25 years of administration of the country is an example of failure. Fix the problem and stop trying con the people at every opportunity.

So, the US pressure campaign is working! And the suspension of US immigrant visa processing for Dominica is real. The US classifies the Cuba medical Mission as State-sponsored human trafficking, or forced labor. The primary grievance is the payment structure – host countries pay the Cuban government directly, Havana keeps about 80 percent and pays the medical workers a fraction. The solution should be very simple Mr. Foreign Minister. If you want to keep the Cuban workers, give them new contracts to pay them directly; those who refuse, send them back to Cuba.

You need to simply shut up, and do as the Antigens has done!
Your neck is caught in a noose, you and Roosevelt doesn’t have any alternative: If you continue importing these people from Cuba to work, while paying a lucrative amount to the Cuban regime, while they pay those who labor chicken feed, you will suffer the consequences Cuba now suffers at the will of a greater political power!

The Cuban doctors and nurses will be unceremoniously dent home exactly what the Gaston Browne administration did. The Roosevelt regime will even bruise its kneed to appease the Donald to release the visa restrictions placed on Dominicans with intentions if travelling to the U.S.
