Dominica’s Girl Guides set to celebrate centennial World Thinking Day with week of festivities

The Girl Guides Association of Dominica (GGAD) is marking its participation in the 100th anniversary celebrations of World Thinking Day, coinciding with this year’s observance of the global event. This significant milestone commemorates a century of guiding principles—empowering young women, nurturing enduring friendships, and serving Dominica, shared a press release from Girl Guides Association of Dominica.

Celebrating “100 Years of Friendship,” GGAD stated that it has organized an energetic week of activities from February 22 to February 27, 2026. The planned events aim to involve current members—from Rainbows to Rangers—as well as alumni and the wider community.

Key events scheduled for the week include:

– Official Opening & Mass: The celebrations kick off with a special service at Roseau Cathedral, featuring the presence of Her Excellency Sylvanie Burton, Chief Guide, as well as representatives from the Dominica National Scouts Organization and other distinguished guests. This will be followed by a festive march through Roseau on Sunday, February 22nd.

– Centennial Panel Discussion: Titled “A Bond That Time Couldn’t Break,” this session will explore the profound influence of Guiding in Dominica. It will take place at the UWI Auditorium and will be streamed live on Facebook on Monday, February 23rd.

– National Pride Day: On Thursday, February 26, participants are encouraged to don their Guide uniforms to showcase their pride and unity.

– Centenary Talent Show: The culmination of the week will be a vibrant talent showcase featuring youth performances at St. Martin Secondary School on Friday, February 27, starting at 5:00 PM.

According to Ms. Merkwan Pacquette, Public Relations Officer of GGAD “This is more than just a celebration of an organization; it is a celebration of the thousands of Dominican women whose lives have been shaped by the values of Guiding.”

She added,”We invite the entire media fraternity and the public to join us in honoring this 100 years of World Thinking Day legacy.”

Members of the press are welcome to cover these events, and interviews with key officials and youth representatives can be arranged upon request.
